One of the best things about living in LA… besides getting engaged to my wife out here, besides my West Coast family, besides the ocean and the mountains, besides 3.5 hours to Vegas, besides Tommy’s, was the fact that I got to see all of my teams play in person out on the West Coast. That was cool.
Every time the Cubs came out to LA, I was there. I wasn’t alone. Many Chicago transplants, as well as, fans making the journey to the West Coast to see the Cubs play in Dodger Stadium. I really liked Dodger Stadium. It was one of the old ballparks, and I like those. Multiple times, we would stop at El Compadre on Sunset prior to making our way up the hill to Chavez Ravine. They weren’t all good times though.
The playoff game in LA back in 2008 ranked as the worst game I ever attended in person. To see my Cubs get swept out of the playoffs after having the best regular season record, in person, in the place I currently lived, was painful. It’s easier for me to talk about that now. All of those bad Cubs memories have been overtaken by the 2016 Cubs memory. At least we made it out of the stadium that day without incident; it was close, but we made it. It was another earlier Cubs Dodgers game that got a bit out of control.
It was earlier that year, and we started the game off with some pre-game drinking at that Mexican restaurant. Getting into the stadium, I put on my Fukudome headband. A few innings in, a couple more beers later, avoiding confrontation in the bathroom, it was back at our seats that it boiled over. I enjoy a good back and forth, but these guys wouldn’t stop. I tried, and tried, but I finally had to let them have it, with a double dog pelvis thrust. Security came and got the guy with the visiting team’s jersey on, and escorted me out. I got back in… after some drunk wandering in the innards of Dodger Stadium. They were waiting for me, and this time didn’t take any chances. I spent the last few innings in the holding cell; my parting gift was a one year suspension from Dodger Stadium. Only one problem… I had tickets to the next night’s game with my future wife. Only one solution… completely shave my face, wear a hat and sunglasses, and go to the game. Mission accomplished.
The other team I saw the most was the Bulls. Every game against the Lakers in the Staples Center, we were there. I yelled at Kobe, letting him know he’d never be better than MJ. I yelled at Gasol, calling him my nickname for him, Street Wise. I yelled at Odom, asking if he was high during the game. Yes, the Cubs and the Bulls, but that wasn’t it.

My answer for this question would be a big YES.
We traveled down to San Diego to see the Bears play the Chargers. It ended in a loss, but it was really fun. Saw the Blackhawks play the Kings at the Staples Center. We walked away with the W there. We even saw the White Sox play in Anaheim. I really wasn’t a fan of that stadium.
I watched other games at Dodger Stadium between non-Chicago teams. We stopped in Giants Stadium during our San Francisco trip to see a preseason baseball game with the A’s. The other memorable LA game was a preseason Clippers Suns game; go figure.
We were sitting in the cheap seats, until the promotion people got to us. They asked it we were interested in a seat upgrade; uh, yeah, duh. I can’t even remember what we had to say, but we did, on the jumbotron, and we were awarded court side seats. It was awesome. We saw Shaq, now with the Suns, up close and personal. We also saw an old Bulls champion, Bill Cartwright, who was coaching with the Suns at the time. But the best of all, was the person we met court side. I still have the picture to prove it, as I snapped a picture of my wife standing with Warren G; regulate bitches!
Yes, seeing my teams live in LA was a lot of fun; going to other sporting events was too. Then there was all the other live events we went too; sounds like another blog some day. Yes, many good times that I definitely wouldn’t have experienced had I not lived out here. It’s time for some playoff football now; think I’ll actually be able to watch the games on Sunday. I have a bit more interest now… since I picked both the Saturday games correctly, as I try to revive my ATS picks feature. Go Chiefs and Go Cowboys; ugh, I think I just threw up in my mouth. Only one solution… more Tommy’s!

Dodger Stadium is very nice…chavez ravine. Not many good memories as far as the Cubs playing there. Glad to get out in 2008 with just the Cubs getting swept and nothing more. It was hard to hate the dodgers back in the day because that is who we were playing baseball in peewee, little league, and pony league. After 2008, the hate flowed easily. So nice stadium but glad the Cubs got some sWeet revenge in the nlcs this year vs the dodgers on the road to becoming World Champs!
