No, not the movie.  I told my wife she could go ahead and watch that without me, since I wouldn’t be around for a few days.  It was the return to La La Land and it felt so good.

It was for work, so that in itself is not that great, but the people I was going to see… my West Coast family, yeah, that’s why it was going to be good.  Of course, then there’s LA itself.  Being back here always brings back memories…

It was hell getting here, and it’s been non stop work since then.  Well, there has been some eating going on too, but mostly work, and some sleep; definitely no time to blog.  But we’re back… we can’t let it slide that long.

So thinking about a trifecta… 3 blogs about LA… mostly sports, and the view from the eyes of a Chicago die hard.  Shall we begin?

Where to start… maybe with the first days of my brand new job in LA.  Of course, wearing Chicago on my sleeve, and on my body, my pride for my city was always on display, so much so, that I resisted embracing LA.  That lasted for a bit…

As I packed for my trip, I made sure there was Chicago gear.  A Michael Jordan t-shirt, a Cubs t-shirt, and my World Series championship Cubs sweatshirt serving as my jacket, I was ready.  I even packed this custom shirt my wife gave me with a handful of rings… 6 to be exact with the numbers 91, 92, 93, 96, 97, & 98 on them.  Finally, whenever I travel, I wear a hat.  This trip was no different, except there was one problem.

I wanted to wear my Cubs hat.  Problem was, it stunk.  I hadn’t washed it since the postseason run to glory.  All the games, all the stress, all the sweat, more and more as we got closer and closer… the hat was not nice smelling to put it mildly.  I asked my wife to find that “hat washer” so that we could throw my hat in the washer.  That was November.

As the day approached for me to leave, she finally did it.  She surprised me, and gave me my fresh and clean Cubs hat.  It’s the little things.  She even got the lint off the hat too; I would miss my wife and my son, but it was time to go.

Across the country, back to a land that held many special moments in my life.  It certainly didn’t have any teams that I liked.  It certainly wasn’t supposed to take 7 and a half hours to get to my final destination.  It certainly wasn’t supposed to be raining all day.  Where was this place that I finally arrived?  Some may call it La La Land; it was my home for almost 5 years.  We went back to Cali… let the trip begin.

Enjoy LA for as long as you can and remise about the mecca for face-lifts, hookers, Kardashians, beach bums (failed Actors), smog, earthquakes, and mind-numbing traffic.

Don’t worry about the Windy City, not too much has changed. The shootings, high Cook County taxes, ice cold temps and AL’s Beef are all still here waiting for you to come HOME.

Oh, and wear that CUBS hat with pride, a true Champ never stinks!!

Chicago gear always packed for trips out of town…always cool to have somebody comment on it, too. As for the stinky hat, offseason is the time to wash. Those sweat stains may never come off, and that is the sign of a hat worn well, especially one of a World Champion!
