We love to reminisce. I love to reminisce. Who doesn’t like to remember the good times? When it comes to Chicago sports, it’s no different.
It’s 7am on this Sunday morning. It’s 4 degrees outside. My dog is looking at me like “when the hell you going to take me outside?” It’s time. Doggie bags check. Coat check. Gloves check. Ski cap check; wait, I want to change it up today. I have my rotation of ski caps… 3 Bears, 2 Bulls, 1 Blackhawks, and most recently, a 2016 World Series Champion Chicago Cubs blue ski cap. That’s the one I reach for on this January morning. I was in that mood. I had just watched the 2016 World Series video on MLB Network.
I woke up at 5am, when my son woke up in his bed screaming for Darth Vader. Yeah, that’s me, and he’s Luke Skywalker, my wife is Princess Leia, my dog is Chewbacca, and our fish is Han Solo. Yes, we are full blown Star Wars phase now. So after I marched into his room, and brought him to our bed, I decided to head to the couch. Instead of going back to sleep, I decided to knock out a couple blogs. I was a couple days behind. Knocked out a Blackhawks and a Bulls blog in less than an hour. Now what?
Full glass of OJ and hit “list” on the DirecTV remote. It was time to watch the World Series video. I started to last night, but I was so exhausted, I didn’t make it past Game 3. Now, at 6am on Sunday morning, I was zoned in. I cried my damn eyes out… again.
It was another game that stuck out to me while watching this. Yes, we all know about Game 7. How many blogs could I write about that game? Don’t try me. The game that I loved watching the highlights of again was Game 5. After all, without a win in that game, we wouldn’t have even sniffed a Game 7.

Medical researches showed that diseases like testicular cancer and they classified by navigate to this shop cheapest viagra price the type of cells that cancer first begins in. It was the third and final game at Wrigley. The first two games in 71 years… brutal losses. Losses that put the Cubs on the brink of elimination. Is this how the script would end? In Game 5, AT Wrigley? I remember a buddy of mine going to the game, thinking he could be going to a funeral. I mean, if the Cubs had lost Game 5 at home… I still wouldn’t be over that pain… I would never be able to erase the memory of the Indians celebrating in our cathedral. That’s why Game 5 was so huge.
It was Lester on the mound, and he came out striking out the side. I love how Ross talked about how amped up he was… firing the ball down to 3rd after the first strike out. That was huge to get that under our belt, but then the Indians still struck first. Down 1-0 in the 4th inning, Smoltz talked about how important it was for the Cubs to score. Each inning that went on, the pressure would mount… the Indians would be bringing the boys in from the bullpen. It was amazing how on target Smoltz was during this series. Honestly, listening to Hughes and whoever the Indians guy is, they were spot on too. Smoltz felt like the Cubs needed to score now… I think we all did. And they did.
It was Kboom with a huge HR to tie up the game. That broke the dam open, and the Cubs jumped on top. The Indians cut the lead, and we clung to a 1 run lead into the 7th. The bottom of the 9th in Game 7 was the most nervous I was all season; the 7th inning and beyond in Game 5 has to rank as the second most nervous I was. Game 6 didn’t allow for many nerves because of the big lead we had.
In steps Chapman. Joe is looking for him to get 8 outs in this one. Just like my most nervous moment in Game 7, Chapman came through in a huge way. He got the final 8. This is why we got him. This is why he will be loved by all Cubs fans from now until eternity. He got the final outs, his longest appearance ever I believe, and the series was going back to Cleveland. Bullet dodged. We know the rest.
I put my Cubs champions ski cap on, and head into the elements; the tears dried on my face. I should be dog tired still, but I’m not. Physically maybe, but mentally nope. I walk down the cold sidewalk with the wind blowing into my face at every turn; I don’t care. Thinking of the video I just watched… remembering the top moment of my sports life… one of the top moments of my life period… I’m warmed. I don’t mind taking the long walk with my mutt today. I’m just walking along singing this song that I can’t get out of my head. Ohhh, some day we’ll go all the way. We did. We really did.

Stayed up until 1am watching the recording the night it was on…tears were flowing and will probably always be when reminiscing back on the 2016 World Champion Chicago Cubs. What a year, what a playoffs, what a World Series, what a game 7! After digging that 3-1 hole, the Cubs faced elimination 3 times. It started with game 5 at Wrigley and KB not just tying the game at 1 but snapping the Cubs and their fans out of it. That home run was the start of the Cubs never trailing again in the series. KB’s 1st inning home run also jump started the Cubs in game 6 as they never looked back in that one. All setting up game 7. The best 3 game Win streak the Cubs ever had ending with a World Series title to show for it. Memories that will never be erased. Tears that will always flow. Champions and Chicago legends that will never die. Thank you Cubbies! Bleeding blue forever but finally in peace! Convention this weekend…cant wait!
GO CUBS GO!!!
