We knew it a long time ago here. Back when I was starting up a new feature, called Player’s Club, we wrote about him here: http://www.thelocalsportstalk.com/december 27-2014-the-butler-did-it/.
That was almost 2 years ago to the day. Read it if you like; I’m not going to… I know what I wrote. I also know what I saw yesterday… again. It was Jimmy Butler playing big time, making big time shots. He is the brightest spot on an otherwise dull Bulls team. He brings it every single night. He plays both ends. He is not afraid. He’s not afraid of guarding the other team’s best player, or the best player in the game; I used to love when he guarded LeBron. He’s not afraid of taking the big shots. He’s hit a number of them; he’s also missed some too. Wednesday night’s Bulls game ended with a game winner at the buzzer. Next to the Cleveland and San Antonio wins, it may have been the best moment of the season thus far.
He capped off a 40 point effort. With Wade on the bench with a migraine; we’ve heard that before. OK, he said he had vision issues with one eye. Whatever it was, sounds like just another old player’s problem. When is the next game he’ll sit? OK, back to Butler. He carried us in this one. He needed to. We needed every single one of those buckets.
I don’t want to ruin the moment, but I just kept thinking one thing. This was against Brooklyn… the frickin Brooklyn Nets!?!?! We had to fight this hard, have Jimmy pour in 40, need a game winner from him, at home, against the Nets. Well, damn. And that other fact comes into my mind too: the Bulls have played the easiest schedule in the NBA thus far. All these other guys getting paid a lot of money better start to step it up; Jimmy can’t do it alone.

But on this night, he did. And in the NBA, every win is a big win, so I’m happy we got it. It would have been a lot worse had we dropped this game to these guys. Did they just seem to go to the rack whenever they wanted against us? And since when is Brook Lopez draining treys? And speaking of Brook Lopez, that dunk over his brother to tie the game before the Buckets game winner was NASTY! He’ll be able to hold that over him the rest of their lives. I remember when my brother dunked over me one time… on a basket attached to the side of a shed. A dunk that caused me to break a window, cut my back, and bleed on my shirt. It was epic; too bad for him there is no video of it. Although I think I’m doing a pretty good job hyping it up here… Being the number one commenter on this site, I know he’ll be reading. I still remember it man… haha.
But man, did we get the wrong Lopez. The other Lopez is hitting treys and delivering nasty dunks on his sibling. We got a frustrated side show Bob. OK, that’s a bit harsh. Robin has been OK for us. He does hustle, and that’s half the battle. But he’s not quite Noah, and he’s definitely not his bro. Back to Buckets.
It was clutch bucket time, and he nailed it. A beautiful step back shot from the top of the key. Not sure why Brooklyn didn’t double team him. Thank you. We may have to add another middle initial to his name if this keeps up. Jimmy G. C. Buckets. Way to go Jimmy. Go Bulls!

Jimmy Butler is the Bulls right now. Forget old man wade and old woman rondo, both of whom were signed just for their names, not their play any more. Ok, wade still has some left in the tank, but it is infrequent. Rondo looks like a shell of himself. Buckets carried the Bulls in this game and has been this season. He needs to continue to do so in order for the Bulls to make the playoffs. Will he have enough having to do so much each and every game? We shall see down the road, but for now, Buckets is the man on this team!
And yes, I remember that ferocious posterization on you…hahaha. Where was our video camera to capture that moment? Nothing like playing basketball on grass shooting into a hanging basket on a shed…good times!
