December 10, 2016: Joy Fix

posted in: Cubs | 1

So I got over the missing Cubs stuff on the DVR; there’s always YouTube for that… and potential Christmas gifts.  There will be more stuff on TV… I’ll just have to be ready to record it.  There was one this week; I almost missed it.

We were out.  We were checking out the Zoo Lights at Lincoln Park Zoo.  It was really cold, but really nice.  On the way to get some pizza, it hit me; crap, I didn’t set the DVR.  My wife jumped on her phone, and set it up to record.  It started recording at 7:02, but it was on at 10:00 too, so I had a full version too.  I couldn’t wait to sit back and watch Joy in Wrigleyville.

Saturday night was the night.  Man, what I used to do on Saturday nights… long ago and far away.  After watching Empire Strikes Back, my son wanted to watch the next one.  We settled in for Return of the Jedi; he made it until Luke was meeting with Emperor.  After finishing the movie and putting my son to bed, it was time to watch my show.

I enjoyed it… of course.  I’m telling you, anything to do with the 2016 Cubs will be gold forever.  This year will be THE year that the soon to be Cubs network will have plenty of footage about.  There is plenty before, and hopefully plenty to go, but this year… this is the bread and butter.  The Cubs really needed to win to make the network a success.  I don’t think they had video back in 1908.  So although there would be footage to watch, it wouldn’t be the same without a championship.  Check.

I liked this special because it focused on some of the personal stories; I’m sure there are thousands of them.  It was nice to see a few.  The guy that drove from North Carolina to Indiana to watch Game 7 graveside with his late Dad was pretty cool.  It’s just great to see all these fans just like me out there… living and dying with it.  Man we almost died again that night.

Of course the Rajai Davis home run, and the folks’ reactions to it was rough.  The party had come to a complete stop.  It was full-on nail biting time again.  I remember how it felt.  I remember how it felt that bottom of the 9th inning.  I remember going crazy during the rain delay.  I remember going crazy when Zobrist hit the shot down the line.  It brought back all those emotions to the surface.  I knew I wouldn’t make it through the whole thing without some tears flowing.

The ground ball to Bryant… the throw to Rizzo… the celebration that ensued.  The relief… that we finally did it.  It was the top moment of my sports life; it was the crowning achievement.  I got my joy fix in.

Now it’s Sunday, and it’s time for the Bears, but the Cubs still remain fully on the mind.  How can they not be?  They are the top team of 2016, as if I even needed to say that.  It will never get old.  The wait is over; I can watch sports a bit more relaxed now… just a bit.  Thanks again Cubs for the ride of my life.  What show can I watch next?

Joy in Wrigleyville was a sWeet show. The road to becoming Champs and ending the curse will never be forgotten. Shows and stories about the 2016 Cubs will never get old, and Im sure there are plenty to be told, with only a few featured in this special. How crazy and eerie was it went rajai tied the game? 4 outs, complete excitement, and then silence…all the demons returning and causing us to question why again. But not this year, not this team. The 17 minute rain delay reset the scene for this team to realize what it could do, what it had to do. Then, the Cubs went out and did it. Comeback complete, curse busted, goat buried, bartman forgiven, and Cubs fans worldwide celebrated…finally! The 2016 World Champion Chicago Cubs were the last team standing, with joy and tears of happiness overflowing. Keep the stories and memories coming…this year will never be forgotten! GO CUBS GO!!!
