December 5, 2016: The New Go To

posted in: Cubs | 1

It was one night last week, and there was nothing much on TV.  So, I thought, let me watch some of Game 7 of the World Series again.  I went to the DVR list, and it was gone!  I immediately thought my wife deleted it; I was pissed.  But, it turns out, our DVR has been dropping things left and right.  I don’t know what the hell is going on.  I may have to call DirecTV.  This is serious business.

I was all ready to settle in, and relive some of those memories… without all the stress.  I wouldn’t have my jersey on, or my sweaty, smelly old Cubs hat.  I sweat a lot in general; during this playoff run, I was sweating profusely at times.  Game 7 was no different.  No need to sweat it now.  I could sit back and enjoy.  Heck, I could even laugh when Rajai Davis hit that home run.  I could chuckle at the Kipnis foul ball in the 9th.  I would still cry when Bryant threw to Rizzo for that final out.  This Cubs World Series year is now the new go to.

Whenever I’m feeling down, about whatever, I could watch that… anything to do with the historic run, and I would be cheered up.  Now, it’s all gone from my DVR, but… there’s still YouTube.  Then, there’s all the stuff in the stores about the year.  I’m really hoping to get some of it for Christmas.  It will never get old.  I will be able to relive that glory my entire life.  The Cubs finally did it.

I know for the Cubs, the page is slowly turning.  Hammel is gone.  Pretty cool how the Cubs let him go though… allowing him the opportunity to sign a big money deal with another team in a weak free agent pitching market.  They could have traded him at his current salary for some low level prospect.  That shit matters.  Guys see that, and should think… I want to play for a team like that.  I want to be somewhere I am treated fairly.

Then there’s Fowler and Chapman, the next two that will go.  It’s not official, but with the signing of Jon Jay, and the presence of Almora, Fowler will be gone.  He too, will get his big money deal somewhere… hopefully in the AL.  As far as Chapman goes, and his 6 year deal that he wants, I don’t think it’s in the cards for the Cubs.  He was awesome, and like all these guys, will never be forgotten.  But, don’t think the Cubs will pour that much money into him.  Although, the Cubs do have money.

The ticket prices are going up; no surprise here.  Don’t act surprised.  The renovations continue, the network is on its way (can’t wait to subscribe to that), and with the World Series win, the money keeps pouring in.  The Cubs will be bigger than ever, have more money than ever, to spend on the product on the field.  That’s where the money SHOULD be spent… along with a strong front office and scouting, etc… we see the importance of that now right?

We are living in the glory days as Cubs fans.  With the curse broken, and the biggest thing off our bucket lists crossed off, it’s time to sit back and enjoy.  Yes, we’ll still stress out, but it’s different now.  We’ve done it.  There is no limit to what this Cubs franchise can and will do.  I am overjoyed with one, but am ready for more.  All those years have paid off… It feels damn good to be a Cubs fan.

All those saved dvr moments should be available for download somehow. It sucks when you change tv providers and lose that stuff, or when it mysteriously disappears. Oh well, the internet is full of Cubs’ memories and moments. 2016 will forever be the year of the Cubs! It will always bring a smile to my face and joy in my heart. Now that the curse is busted, it is time to set yourselves up to repeat. Yes, the roster will be different, and those that are gone will be remembered and thanked for what they did this year. Kind of like the Bhawks, the core is in place for the Cubs…just mix and match to figure out the rest of the puzzle each year, and who better then Theo and Joe to do that. Looking forward to some winter meeting news for the mlb, but mostly for the Cubs as they begin to prepare their title defense…how sWeet does that sound? GO CUBS GO!!!
