How about them Bulls? They finished up a 4-2 Circus Road Trip with a win in Philly on Friday. That is impressive.
4-2 impressive? Yes, that’s what I said. After all, it’s not that often that the Bulls return home from this trip with a winning record. In fact, this is the 3rd time since Jordan that the Bulls have a winning circus trip. That’s a span of 19 years, and only 3 years with winning records on this trip!!! That’s crazy. So just for that, respect.
What else led to the Bulls road trip success? Let’s start with Jimmy. How good has he been? How high do you rank him as an individual player in the NBA? Top 5… probably not. Top 10… maybe. Top 20, for sure. The key is consistency. If he keeps coming out and doing it night in and night out, then his stock will continue to rise. He still talks a little crazy, and you kind of think that it’s just a matter of time before he says something else quote worthy and/or throwing somebody under the bus. I think that should be handled behind closed doors. Yes, it makes for good talk on the radio, but for the better of the team, those things should be said and done without us knowing. But back on the court, he has been a beast. He kind of called the 40 vs the Lakers, with Wade getting a day of rest… here we go again with that. I don’t like that period, but let’s just see where that goes. Of course we know Jimmy has the all around game, and THAT’S what makes him so valuable. He’s well on his way to the All Star Game.
And the Bulls are on their way up the standings in the East. Currently sitting at 10-6 after this trip, they are in 2nd place behind Cleveland. A quick look at the standings shows a bunch of teams within a couple games of each other. It’s kind of the Cavs and everybody else. I guess I’m interested to see how these Bulls fare vs the Cavs, because there is no doubt, that the road to the Finals will go through Cleveland. Getting a bit ahead of ourselves, and of course, how much does regular season success correlate to post season success vs a specific team, especially these Cavs who will probably sit half their lineup that night. Still, this Bulls team is growing on me.

I really like Robin Lopez. I’m pleasantly surprised at his performance thus far. He brings the hustle, grabs some boards, and blocks some shots. He’s the poor man version of Joakim Noah in his prime. Although I hate to say it because I love Jo, maybe it was the right move to let him walk… and the only reason I say that is because Jo may not ever be 100% again. Still, Robin is another guy who has been growing on me from these Bulls.
Still, we definitely need to see more, but at 10-6 with the circus trip in the books, I am pretty pleased. The trip could have been better had it not been for some calls that the NBA owned up to. Is that something new? The NBA officials owning up to bad calls. What is the purpose I guess? Are those officials getting written up for performance? Obviously it impacted the outcome, but we’re not going back and changing that, so what’s the end game here? Maybe I need to read more about that. Anyways..
What’s done is done, and what’s been done is pretty good. The Bulls reward… 5 days off before taking on the Lakers at the UC on Wednesday, where they will look to keep that home record looking good. Congrats on the trip and welcome home. Go Bulls!

A quiet 4-2, winning, road trip that has only happened 3 times in the last 19 years? WOW! That is hard to believe, which I guess makes this 4-2 trip seem even more impressive. Buckets is great. Wade is going to take games off. Rondo has been quiet and hurt. So at 10-6 and about 20% of the season complete, how are we feeling about the Bulls? If they continue this pace, they would win 50+ games. Possible, but I am thinking closer to 45 games. In either case, a playoff team again where anything can happen. Can they beat the cavs? We shall see on Friday. Can they come back to the UC and beat la first? Unfortunately…
