Monday night brought the return of the other Chicago teams. It was a visit to the United Center to see the Bulls take on the Magic. My new Chicago Cubs gray World Series champs hat looked really nice with my red Bulls jacket. It was the first full game of any other team that I’ve watched in about a month. Yes, it was the first step out of the Cubs zone. My son was excited to get back to the UC. It’s a place we’ve been to many times, recently thanks to his uncle’s season tickets. We’re always up for a Bulls game. We have our routine.
We have our street parking that we find for free, except this year, they have extended the no parking for UC events restriction. The free street parking will be a lot more limited this year, although, for this Monday night game against the Magic, we were still able to find one. Next up, was getting into the UC. I usually pack a few snacks for the boy to avoid paying 200% for anything inside the stadium. I thought we could bring a water in too, as long as it was unopened, but I guess I was still in Wrigley Field mode; they made me turn it in at security. The next tradition we have is walking around. We’ll take a lap around the 100 level, stopping in the Bulls store. I must say, they have a LOT of nice stuff inside there. They’ve brought back some gear from the 90s Championship teams, including a nice long sleeve shirt with the 72-10 record on it; of course, they remain the best team in NBA history officially because of the Warriors loss last season. I can’t believe I’m saying this, but thanks Cleveland???
As we walked around the 300 level, there was something missing. The pictures of the Bulls players were not there. The exhibit where you put your hand on the basketball and compare it to other Bulls players was missing too. In fact, there were NO Bulls exhibits up there; I’m hoping they’ll be back soon, or something will… although, if you had all off season to figure it out and still don’t have anything, maybe they’re gone for good. My son looked forward to those… When I asked one of the vendors, they said they didn’t know; the Bulls don’t tell them anything she said, seemingly loving her job. Oh well… on to the game.

I had to explain to my son that #3 was Dwyane Wade this year and NOT Doug McDermott; he’s #11 by the way. Yes, Rondo and Lopez rounded out the 3 new starters in the lineup. That will still take some getting used to. It was good to see Butler and Taj, and Niko and Doug off the bench. With Portis & Feliciano, they are the six remaining Bulls from last year.
On the court, it started off ugly, as the Bulls apparently weren’t ready to play defense, as the Magic ran up a bunch of points. That didn’t last, as the Bulls turned it around, and eventually blew out this squad. I haven’t watched much of the Bulls yet, but I do know they’ve beat 2 teams coming off a game, the Nets, and now, the Magic. They are 4-3. From what I could tell in my first game analysis, is that there will not be much defense played, which means the Bulls will have to outscore their opponents. So, if they could get past Rondo’s poor shooting, rely on Wade’s “no don’t shoot that” bail out buckets, and hope that Jimmy can carry them in spurts, they’ll be OK. I’m thinking 4 out of 7 wins seems about right. That would be good for about 46 wins, which would be good for the playoffs. That would mean a successful season, right?
Well, these are our Bulls, and we will get used to them. We will cheer them on. So as we get used to the differences, and hope they work out the best, there are some things we can always count on. The Bucket Boys were fantastic, and it always feels good to win. Time to watch some basketball. Go Bulls!

Not in Bulls mode yet although I have been keeping track a bit. Have not watched a game this year, but I know rondo is still shooting horribly and wade has found his 3pt stroke. Buckets is buckets, but these Bulls should make the playoffs this year. Anything but that would be a disappointment, and in my opinion, the end of the fredberg show. So make some noise in the east, Bulls, even if few people are watching so far. GO BULLS!!!
