November 3, 2016: This Was Our Year

posted in: Cubs | 6

It was the first time all year I was truly scared.  The Indians had just tied the game with 3 runs in the 8th, and escaped the top of the 9th giving up nothing.  It was a tie game, heading to the bottom of the 9th, with the top of their order up, and Chapman who did not have it tonight.  It was the most intense half inning of the year.

He goes 3-2 to Santana, before hanging a pitch right over the heart of the plate.  Thankfully, he popped it up.  One down.  Next up was Jason Kipnis.  The guy from “Chicago”… OK, really Northbrook, but everybody claims Chicago… stepped to the plate looking to end our season.  He said he’d love to come back home for Thanksgiving and see all the broken hearts.  Bastard.  When he hit the ball, I thought it was gone.  I almost swallowed my heart.  When the ball went foul, I couldn’t believe it.  It felt like I was on the emergency room table, and they just brought me back with those paddles to my chest.  I saw the whole season flash in front of my eyes; I felt the first twinge of heartbreak.  The bullet was dodged.  Kipnis struck out.  I had to ask my brother what happened with Lindor, because at that point, I think I blacked out.  Say what you will about Chapman, but those 3 outs, with the condition he was in, were 3 of the grittiest outs you’ll ever see.  Bravo Aroldis!

What happened next was unbelievable; a fricking rain delay?!?  You’ve got to be kidding me.  I wait my whole life for this moment.  I see the Cubs go down 3-1 in the World Series.  I see the Cubs tie the series and force a Game 7.  I see the Cubs take a comfortable lead.  I see the Cubs blow that comfortable lead.  I see the game going to extra innings.  And now, I have to wait for a rain delay.  I was pacing like a caged animal.  Then I thought, this could be good for us.  With their guy already having pitched an inning, having to sit through this, and then come back out, advantage Cubs right?  Right!  Schwarby base hit.  Almora pinch run.  Bryant with a drive to the wall followed by a most important tag by Almora to 2nd.  Intentional walk to Rizzo.  Then Zobrist… and I was screaming through my clenched teeth again.  Then Montero with an all important insurance run; you kind of knew we’d need it.  I felt good.  We were now closer than ever.  3 outs remained.

For instances those results are anguish, anxiety, aggravation, melancholy, anxiety, sexual disappointment djpaulkom.tv viagra properien etc. There are a lot of reasons due to which erectile Dysfunction is most likely to levitra 100mg http://djpaulkom.tv/kmart-knickers-commercial-parody/ occur. Edwards got the first two, then walked a guy, which is never good.  The 8th inning hero for the Indians came up and cut the lead in half.   Still, only one out away, as Maddon made his final pitching change of the year.  Montgomery got the groundball, and as Bryant threw to Rizzo, it was done.  Our dreams came true.  The Cubs are the 2016 World Series Champions; I can get used to saying that.

I thought about what I’d write in THIS blog, when THIS day would finally arrive, ever since I started this thing.  How would I be able to capture my feelings at this very moment?  One thing I’ve come to grips with, is that I won’t be able to, at least not in 1 blog.  So, there will be many to follow this initial crack at it.  I have many, many things I want to say; many feelings & thoughts that I need to share.  It’s impossible to do it in one post, let alone 2, 3,4, or 5.  I will try my best.

For now, I’m soaking in the moment.  For now, almost 4 hours after the final out of this historic night was recorded, my emotions still run high.  I am pretty beat though.  Talk about a toe-to-toe battle with my emotions.  Talk about the best, craziest roller coaster ride I’ve ever been on in my sports life.  Talk about seeing the final thing I needed to see in my Chicago die-hard sports fan life.  It’s fricking amazing.  There aren’t enough adjectives to describe how I’m feeling right now.  I will be soaking in this moment for days, weeks, and months to come.  I will never forget this moment for as long as I live.  The Cubs are the 2016 World Series Champions.  We can finally say it; This Was Our Year!  Congrats Cubbies!  All I can say is Thank You!  Thank you for finally doing it; it was well worth the wait.  Hey Chicago, what do you say?  The Cubs won today!  Mission completed!  Good night!

Congrats Cubbies!!!! Well deserved…best team in baseball from start to finish. It’s never easy winning a championship when everyone predicted it at the beginning of the season. You have all the pressure in every game. When you are the team to beat, every opponent puts forth their best effort because they always want to beat the best. Game 7 was one of the best baseball games I have ever watched. The ups and downs over the course of the game were unprecedented. I questioned a few of the moves Maddon made, but in the end, the players were the ones to get the job done. Whenever their number was called, they came through when their team needed it the most. The rain delay was the best thing that could have happened to the Cubs. My wife said it was a calling from God. The Cubs needed to regroup after what happened in the 8th and they came through in the 10th. The stars were definitely aligned for the Cubs and that is what it takes sometimes to win a championship (loads of talent helps as well).
    108 is a special number.
108 years from the last Cubs World Series.
    108 stitches on a baseball.
108 outs needed to win a World Series (if you don’t go to extra innings!!!)
It was destiny!!!! I’m not a Cubs fan by any stretch of the imagination, but I’m really happy for all Cubs fans out there. Especially my mother-in-law and my 2 brothers-in-law!!! All the pain and heartache is gone now!!! Congrats again!!!

I’m personally surprised you’re able to function enough to write anything, let alone this whole blog! Mom and I sitting here with tears in our eyes reading your ramblings. It is truly an amazing thing. Lived thru the ups and downs of the series and the nite. Lived thru the knife to the heart from davis. Lived thru the rain delay, happily only 17 minutes long. But long enough for Heyward to pump up the team and bring them back reality and the need to suck-it-up and go getem!! Sort of ironic that it was Heyward, with the series he was having, that did that and got thru to the team. Whatever it took, the end result was worth all of the angst and heart tugs. I’m happy for the Cubs. But even more than them, I’m happy for my wife, for you and your bro, and for your grandparents who may have had a hand in the outcome as did all of those Cub fans who never got to see this moment. Can’t imagine how many W flags are running around heaven last nite and today. GO CUBS GO

It’s gonna happen? It just did happen! The 2016 Chicago Cubs are the World Series Champions!!! It still seems surreal. I am half in shock. What a series, what a game 7…will probably go down as one of the best series and games ever! And the Cubs came out on top…what a change! After that 8th inning, the Cubs could have folded and may have in previous years. But to hell with the past, THIS Cubs team was not going to let that or anything keep them from their dream…from OUR dream and all that of all those Cubs fans that have came before and after us! Getting that lead, keeping it, and then giving it back in the 8th was heart wrenching…talk about a range of emotions. Then the Cubs did nothing in the top of the 9th, and Chapman was back out for the bottom half with fumes in his tank. How he got thru that bottom of the 9th against the top of their lineup is amazing. Then, all the Cubs fans in heaven and the good Lord decided to give us a bit of divine intervention…what might be the shortest rain delay in history…17 minutes??? WOW! It could not have came a better time. We talked about it…their stooge shaw was gonna have to wait thru it before getting back out there. And who would have thought that Heyward would pull everybody together for a pep talk? This guy did next to nothing all year long but may have spoken up at the best time possible as the Cubs came out and scored twice…thanks for the insurance Miggy! Carl and Monty get the last 3 stressful outs of the game, and the Cubs are CHAMPS! I thought I would cry, but I think I my emotions were wound so tightly that nothing came out but screams of joy. Those tears came later in the night as well as this morning and will probably continue all weekend long. GO CUBS GO, Vedder’s song, We are the Champions…all tear jerkers! Cannot wait to continue watching the highlights, hearing the interviews, seeing the Cubs fans stories, and checking out all of the montage videos of the Cubs. CSN had a good one recapping this Cubs team from the start of the Ricketts family. Congrats to my family, especially my mom and Jeff…what a wild ride it has been, but the Cubbies finally did it! Congrats to the 2016 Cubs…and THANK YOU!!! The 3 step program was completed successfully, the finishing touches placed on top of this historic year, and HOLY COW, HEY HEY, the Cubs went all the way!!!
    Bleeding Blue…Cubbie True!
