October 28, 2016: Standing Still

posted in: Cubs | 1

The rest of the Chicago sports world might as well be standing still.  With the Cubs 3 wins away from a World Series title, nothing else matters.

Lots of talk about Schwarby…  I think everyone knows the story up until this point; now, the next chapter begins.  In games 3 through 5, he will NOT be starting since he has not been cleared to play the outfield.  I don’t think this is such a bad thing.

I was all for him being on the roster.  His presence turned out to be key as a DH.  Now, he turns into the biggest pinch hitting weapon for Joe Maddon.  It’s only a question of picking the best spot to use him.  As long as the doctors cleared him to bat and run the bases, he should play, and he has.  Now, the doctors haven’t cleared him to play the field; that’s a whole another ballgame.  And no, the hand written note I saw on Twitter clearing Kyle to play the outfield did NOT suffice…haha.  We do not want to risk his career if he hasn’t been medically cleared; that’s the bottom line.  He has worked so hard to get to this point, the point where he is contributing the same year of his injury on the biggest stage.  Let’s not push it.  After all, we did win 100 plus games without him; this is NOT the end of the world.

It’s funny because the Cubs are built like an American League team.  We don’t play small ball.  You rarely see the Cubs run; they have a bit recently.  You see them swinging away more than moving base runners over via the bunt.  It’s actually Cleveland who wears this hat in this series.  Yes, they have went deep and we haven’t, but remember, they are one of the top base stealing teams in the majors.  They also scored 2 runs with only 1 ball out of the infield the other day.  In general, they have to scratch out more runs, while the Cubs are built to slug.  One of our biggest sluggers will be relegated to pinch hitting duties for the next 3 games.

During the latter days, unavailability you can find out more generic uk viagra of erectile dysfunction medicines used to get men helpless for achieving true pleasure of sexual life. What does that mean for the lineup?  Contreras has to play every game; enough already!  If he is NOT catching, then he is that 3rd outfield spot.  If he IS catching, then it’s Heyward, Soler, or Coghlan in RF.  Pick your poison.  Neither guy has done much.  Heyward is the best defender.  Joe will probably play the matchup game; I’m thinking Heyward for Game 3.  I can’t believe I’m saying that.  He did hit the ball very hard, before striking out again, in Game 2…  maybe his benching will get him to swing that bat quicker so he can hit a major league fastball.  Don’t count on Cleveland intentionally walking him any time soon.

I can’t wait to see Kyle pinch hit; just wait for that ovation.  It’s Joe’s trump card.  It will force Francona to respond, hopefully with Miller.  Yes, maybe that sounds crazy, but I’d love to see Schwarbs face Miller one more time… with the game on the line.  That’s how I want this next chapter to play out.

And if the Cubs don’t win all 3 at Wrigley, Kyle will be back in the lineup as the DH.  Love you Kyle, but I’d rather not see you in the starting lineup again this year.  I want the Cubs to close this baby out.  Take care of home field advantage, and claim the trophy.

Are there other teams playing right now in Chicago?  Not that I know of… not yet… we’ll get to them soon enough.  I wouldn’t rather it be any other way.  The World Series will be played on Friday, Saturday, & Sunday in the Friendly Confines; get ready for the biggest weekend at Wrigley EVER!  Can you dig it?  Let’s Go Cubs!!!

Schwarby cant play the field…not medically cleared? All good. It sucks because having him in the 5 hole is big, but the Cubs have done it without him all year, and they will continue to do so. I can see a Schwarby vs miller matchup…round 3! Game 3 in Wrigley tonight…can you believe it??? Cubs usually being the big bats but have yet to go deep. I expect some tonight…KBOOM, Baez, Fowler? All 3 would be sWeet! However the Cubs score, if Hendricks is on his game, it will be a great night! Hope the Cubs start hot and stay that way! Get the advantage and keep home field!
    Bleedin Blue…Cubbie true!
    GO CUBS GO!!!
