September 19, 2016: It Never Fails

posted in: Bears | 2

It never fails… the Bears losing a game pisses me off.  I have been pissed off a lot over the last, fill in the blank, years.  I might be pissed off a lot this season.  Thank God for the Cubs.

Thankfully, I was so tired last night.  If I had wrote this last night, right after the game, I would have absolutely went off.  I’m a little calmer now… a little.  What the hell happened last night?

I was immediately pissed off as the game began.  The first 3 plays from scrimmage looked like the Bears hadn’t prepared one lick the week leading up to this game.  How can a team possibly look that bad in the first 3 plays of the game?  I mean, the defense doesn’t really know what’s coming yet… now is the time to strike, but nooo… not the Bears.  Were there plays planned ahead of time to start the game, or was Dowell up in the press box scribbling down plays as the Bears came into the huddle?  Who is to blame for that piss poor start by the offense?  I have to think coaches in this case.

Then it was the Eagles turn.  They came out, led by what appears to be a real QB, and marched right down the field.  I do give credit to our defense though; they held.  The bend but don’t break quality is a good one to have as an NFL defense.  The Eagles were forced to kick a FG.  OK… let’s see how the Bears do in drive #2.

They looked better.  They moved the ball.  Hey hey… let’s forget about that first drive.  Couple things I did note though… Where was Langford?  Was he blamed for the crappy first drive of the game?  I heard Fox wasn’t too happy with his running last week; I do have to admit he seemed to go down easy.  Still, he played the most snaps for a single RB last week in the NFL.  This would not be the case today, so in came Carey… later we would see Howard.  And oh yeah, Forte is off in New York scoring 3 TDs.  Great move guys.  And wait, there’s more.  Bears drive down, get into FG position… that under 40 yard FG where this new guy is supposedly money.  Well, can we have our money back?  Yep, he clanked his first attempt, and I was furious.  Immediately back to why the Bears released Gould; he would have never missed that.  Were we just cheap?  Because Gould was making so much money; was it really because he missed a couple big kicks last year and had a bad preseason?  Well, I hope it was worth it; 0-1 on FG attempts for the new guy.  Another move paying immediate dividends.

The defense was settling in, and the offense got the ball back.  Jay connected with Alshon on a deep ball.  Sure, Jay under threw the ball by about 15 yards, but Alshon went up and grabbed it.  We were able to punch it in:  Langford of all people.  Bears lead; all right, maybe this game will turn out OK.  Wrong.

That would be the last points the Bears would score on offense,  Couple quick thoughts before I get into my Cutler rant.  Why on 3rd and 2 are we lining up with 5 wide and an empty backfield?  I still don’t understand that.  I thought we were going to run the ball more, and ask Cutler to do less.  One other quick one:  Royal played a hell of a game, as did Freeman.  But, why is Freeman wearing #50?  I still can’t figure out why that number isn’t retired.  At least he is better than the last guy that wore it, but still… we should never see 50 again on the football field in a Bears uniform unless it’s an old timers game.

Back to Cutler… he would get sacked, fumble, and throw an INT; I didn’t forget about that one he threw right in the DBs hands that he dropped before the FG attempt.  Now, Cutler is hurt; THAT was the reason for his crappy play… not only this week, but last week too.  NOW it all makes sense.  How do you explain the last 6 years Jay?  This guy sucks.  Hopefully, this injury is serious enough to keep him out the entire year.  Hopefully, he has played his last game in a Bears uniform.  Yes, you cannot exclusively blame Jay for the Bears struggles, but he IS the QB.  And yes, I know the Bears will suck worse without him, but then maybe we can get that #1 pick.  And no, I’m not a fan of tanking, and yes, I will agonize over every loss, but at the end of the day, if this means we get another chance to get a franchise QB, since this one obviously was a bust, then so be it.  If only we had drafted a QB to at least be his backup…  maybe prepare for the future?  No, not the Bears.

I was a little calmer, now I’m just feeling disgusted all over again.  Last night, I just flipped on the Cubs game to see Chapman close out the game.  Ahhh… that made me feel a little better.  But I think…  the Cubs better win it all.  If they don’t, and then I have to deal with another crappy Bears year… I hate to even think about it.  Yet, I’ll always be Bearing Down… can’t de-program that out of me, but man… when will the Bears be good again?  I’m sick of waiting…

Bears are a lost cause. They added a few parts on defense didn’t address the RB issue and the TE is pathetic. Bears going 5-11 if Cutler is not traded. This year should be all about rebuilding, can’t do that if the same parts are still here.

Bears came out to open their home season at Soldier Field and were not ready. 3-13 at Soldier Field in the last 16…DISGUSTING! They should be offering fans a discount to go watch them.
Langford looks like the wind would knock him down. He finally got it going to start the 2nd half and then fumbled…way to keep yourself in the dog house. Howard looked good and may be starting before long.
Canter Barf is brought in because Gould was making too much and misses a chip shot. Even the announcers, with gruden being absolutely horrendous, hit it on the head and said you get what you pay for. Way to be cheap with forte and gould Pace…our offense for the past how many years…ridiculous!
The defense has played well the first 2 weeks but will not last if they continue to be on the field so long. Freeman should not be wearing #50…nobody should for the Bears. It should be retired for samurai Mike, but at least freeman asked him if he could wear it.
The offense is not good. The Oline has a lot of work to do, both in the run and pass games. Langford needs to get back to last year’s form before he is benched permanently. Alshon is awesome but seems to take plays, quarters, and/or halves off…unacceptable. Kevin White has to get up to full speed NOW. That leaves the cancer that the Bears have been plagued with for too many years…jay cutler. Game going bad, another fumble and int, and then he is hurt enough to leave. This guy just keeps killing this Bears team game after game, year after year. All the talk, for forever, has been about his talent and strong arm. That is obviously not enough, has not been enough, and will NEVER be enough.
I am against tanking, too, but the Bears need a franchise qb or this hard to watch brand of football will continue, as it has for way too long. Jackson from louisville has been awesome for 3 games but is far from a sure thing. Watson from clemson? Anybody else? Big trade? Something needs to be done. The Bears are embarrassing right now. BEAR DOWN really means Bears down right now…way too far down!
