September 7, 2016: Watching the Wild Card

posted in: Cubs | 2

Besides counting down that magic number, which is single digits after the Cardinals lost on Wednesday, the next most important thing will be watching the way the NL Wild Card plays out.  With the best record in the NL, the Cubs will face the winner of that NL Wild Card match up.  Who do you want to see?

It looks to be a 3 team race at this point.  The Cardinals, the Mets, and the Giants will be battling for those 2 spots.  The Giants of course still have a chance for the division, while the Cards and Mets have one goal in mind.  I read those names, and neither of them makes me feel great… while neither of them really scares me, especially considering that it will only be one of them… and they will be down their number one starter.

Wainwright, Thor, MadBum… in all likelihood, they will be pitching for their respective teams come wild card day.  What that means in the 5 game NLDS that will proceed it, with 3 of the 5 games being in Wrigley, is that they will only pitch one game… most likely.  I guess feasibly they can throw them in Game 2 and 5; that may be pushing it.  Either way, the Cubs would be facing their #2 starters in Game 1 at Wrigley.  I guess the bigger question is who will the Cubs start?

In addition to these benefits, Testover C (Testosterone Cypionate) is a steroid that comes only in tadalafil tablets injectable form. We have a lot of time to talk about this over the next month.  The division is academic… the NL best record seems to be too… or is it?  Let’s say the Cubs do start losing, and the Nationals take the best record; it’s a whole new ball game.  Then the Cubs will face the winner of the NL west, which right now, is the Dodgers.  Big question there, will Kershaw be back?  If he is, facing him twice in a five game series seems ugly, although based on his postseason history, maybe not so much?  What if the Giants win the division?  Then we have to face MadBum twice in that five game set.  Um, maybe it IS really important to get that best record in the National League.

Maybe I need to stick to my thinking that the only team the Cubs have to fear is themselves.  When the Cubs are on their game, nobody can beat them.  Yeah, I like the sound of that.  Yet, it is the Cubs in the playoffs, and those ghosts of playoffs past will be howling… at least in the back of my mind.  I can’t help it.  I will be confident, but worrying, around every turn.  Not until we win it all, will I truly shake it.  We really need to win it all already.

Maybe it does matter… to win or to lose in September, contrary to my last post.  There is still something very important to play for…. something very important to put ourselves in the best possible position to succeed.  What the heck was I thinking?  Yes, yes, I will be watching and cheering for each of those Ws.  Yes, I will be watching the wild card, and how that shapes up.  Yes, I am sitting here right now, watching the Cubs about to lose a series to the Brewers.  Yes, I am starting to feel a little pissed… seeing the Cubs muster only one run against Garza, seeing Joe Smith come in and get taken deep to put the Cubs down a run with 3 outs left, seeing Rizzo get robbed of a game tying HR in the top of the 9th.  Yes, those emotions are there… I try to keep them down, I try to down play it, but I can’t.  It’s the gift and the curse… oh wait, I just didn’t say curse.  F the curse!  Win, lose, it doesn’t matter.  This is the year!  Go Cubs!

Not to be overconfident or cocky, because how can I be as a true die hard Cubs fan with everything that has happened in the past, but I feel good as the season winds down. The nl central is all but officially locked up. The best record in the nl and mlb is next, although home field cookin at Wrigley will only last through the nl. I am not worried about whoever the Cubs might face. 5 or 7 game series should be won by the best team, and that is the Cubs. Unfortunately, the Cubs have had the best record before heading into the playoffs, but I do not remember feeling this good. I think it is because this years Cubbies are that talented. Single digit magic number, get 100+ wins and head into the playoffs ready to rule the world. Cubbie blue train steaming ahead!
    GO CUBS GO!!!
