The last of the birthday blog trifecta… and to get officially caught up. We talked about the first forty, then the day itself… now we’ll take a look at the next forty.
Things don’t stop. Like Ferris said, life moves pretty fast around here; if you’re not careful, you could miss something. I don’t want to miss anything. Another milestone led off the next forty.
My son started school today. It was his first day in preschool. Welcome to the next 18 years of your life son. That makes up almost half of the next four decades; assuming my son will go to college, he will be in school for all those years. It all started today. He loved it. As my wife and I walked him into his classroom (we get to do that until Labor Day), he waved to his teachers and began to play. We kind of stood around, looked at each other, and asked one of the teachers “so that’s it?” She said yep. We gave him a hug and kiss, and left him to enjoy himself. And so it begins…
Many of the memories of the next 40 years will feature my son front and center, and any siblings he may get. It’s about the next generation… all of his cousins around the same age; watching them all grow up will be one of the best things. But let’s not forget about that other generation; still plenty of years left there for all us old timers. Will definitely cherish all those moments.

What will it hold Chicago sports wise? Well, it may start with something that I have never witnessed in my life. A Cubs World Series is the only thing left on my bucket list for Chicago sports. I sometimes wonder if I will continue to be the nut I am when the Cubs finally win it all. Will I still have that passion for the Cubs and all the Chicago sports teams? I think I already know that answer, but would love to find out.
The Blackhawks with 3 cups this decade, have 3 more chances to add, and solidify the dynasty and team of the decade title. The Sox are 11 years and counting. The Bulls are 18 years and counting on their last title, while the Bears are 31 and counting. I hope to see many more titles in the 2nd half of my life.
We’ll end this blog for now, and focus on the Cubs game at hand. Bryant just went deep; we may see him and all these young Cubs play for a good number of years. I hope to be writing for many of those… or at least the next couple months. Back to the grind now. The birthday celebration is over. Let’s Go Cubs!

Cubs and school…remember coming home from school and watching the Cubs on wgn. All those day games really came in handy when you were a kid that was not gonna stay up late to watch them. So watching them after school, plus the fact that they were always on wgn, really pushed the love for the Cubs. That is the one we all want to see. Of course, more titles for any of the Chicago teams is welcome, but the Cubs is the one we really want right now. End the curse. End the streak. Next year is here! GO CUBS GO!!!
