Summer League? What the heck is that? I really only started to hear about that last year, when Tony Snell and Doug McDermott were ruling the courts in Vegas. Yeah, how’d that translate to the regular season?
But here we go again with this summer madness. Actually, it would probably be cool to check out the Bulls play in Vegas. I actually tuned in for a bit on Sunday night.
My father in law had been telling me to tune in. He was giving the summer Bulls some glowing reviews. I had been reading about it too.. on my Twitter feed of course, but wanted to see for myself. I was pleasantly surprised.
The Bulls are undefeated in summer league play. On this night, they beat the Cavaliers to advance to the summer league championship. I didn’t even know there was a championship game. But the Bulls are in it… they won a preseason title 2 years ago, and now go for a summer title. Remember that preseason title?
Haha… yeah, it was DRose finally back healthy and Thibs in what turned out to be his last year. Of course there was no preseason title, but they still cruised through those games, getting us all hyped up for what could be. It was a good year until we met Cleveland of course. So we dispatch the Cavs in this one, and now are meeting Thibs’ Wolves. How ironic.

He was on the sidelines watching his young Wolves advance to the finals. I bet he’s so happy he doesn’t have to deal with dumb and dumber any more. Pax and Gar are a distant memory. He’ll have his first shot at a little revenge on Monday night.
Bobby Portis was named to the first team all summer league. He looks more ripped… way better shape than last year. And yeah, he’s still got those crazy eyes, with passion seeping out of his pores. Like him a lot. The rookie looks pretty decent. Valentine should be able to contribute in what could be the Bench Mob 2016. In fact, that’s really what these teams are.
There was nobody on the Cavs I recognized. Of course I know about our Bulls, but outside of Portis, Valentine, Felicio, and Grant who else will be on the team come regular season? Even those 4 will all come off the bench. Some guy named Dez Wells looked pretty decent, while Spencer Dinwiddie… didn’t we cut him, looked OK. How will this Bulls roster shape up?
It was the 2nd team Chicago Bulls on display… and some guys we’ll never see set foot in the UC. Still, they looked good… as good as a team can look in this summer league. It’s just too bad some of these guys will have limited tick this year. We have this young talent, but the court will be full of our older acquisitions. You know, the guys that will help season ticket holders think twice about cancelling their tickets. Those guys that will make this year an interesting one… one way or another.
I think I will tune in on Monday night. It’s the closest the Bulls will get to a game of this sort in a long time, unless we’re shooting for that preseason title again. I like to watch the young guns play; it’s just too bad we won’t see much of them on the court… at least not this year. But then again, it will be first teams out there; how will ours fare? That question won’t be answered for a while, but maybe we can firm up some answers about our depth. Maybe the Bulls can claim that summer title. Let me hear you… Go Bulls.

I pay attention to summer league basketball like I do any of the sports preseason…not at all. Could care less really, although I did get to see the Bulls rookie Valentine drain 2 huge shots at the end of regulation as well as the game winner in ot to get the Bulls the “title.” Congrats young Bulls…bring it when it matters!
