One more quick preview of the second half. Bryant, Sale, Heyward, Anderson, Lackey, and Rodon have already been identified as some keys to the 2nd half. What is done in the dugout and front office will play a part in it too. Let’s take a peek.
Not a fan of Ventura. Liked him as a player, don’t think much of him as a manager. But what does it matter what I think? The only opinion that counts is the one of those players. They seem to respond to him…from time to time. If the Sox don’t make a second half run, Robin may be gone. Fair or unfair, the manager eventually takes the hit. Thought he was gone earlier this year, during the Sox fall from the standings, but he survived. Can the team save him again?
On the flip side, Maddon is awesome; he just is. Who wouldn’t want him as your team’s manager? Big big piece of the puzzle was found when he was hired. His attitude helps keep the Cubs through the ups and downs; a real key for this young team. He also does a lot of fun stuff; that’s cool. It’s a long season…need to mix it up. But, all that won’t matter come October. All that matters is getting those wins. For how great he is, he has not managed a team to a World Series championship; let’s win one together Joe.
You know Theo has got his back. Building a juggernaut over the past 5 years, the Cubs are primed for big things. But his work is not done. Who is that piece or pieces that will push us over the top? You know the Cubs will make a move; which prospects will go? Want that World Series bad, but don’t want to tear down everything that was built. Fine line Theo.

Rick Hahn has already made the first move of the second half. The Sox have called up prized pitching prospect Carson Fullmer. Love the move. Like when he brought up Anderson, now Fullmer, who’s next? Bring up as many young guys as you can. Best way to learn is at the major league level. It’s been working for the Cubs. Will they be buyers too?
It’s hard to predict if they could really make the playoffs this year. Since they are in the mix, and for ever long they stay there, you got to go for it. Yes, trading Quintana would bring the mother load, but how does that improve your team, this year or next?
Not an easy job in either case, Cubs Sox, GM or manager. They are very important to the success of their teams, but at the end of the day, it comes down to the players on the field. GMs can do everything in their power to put you in a position to succeed. Managers can try to make the right moves. But the players have to execute. Don’t hear of GMs choking, or managers either, although I may be able to argue that one. When it comes down to it, the players have to play. They have to make plays.
Ready for the second half? I am. After a rough stretch to end the first half, I’m feeling that same excitement I felt at the beginning of the season…even more. It’s showtime. Half the marathon to go. Halfway closer to the ultimate goal. Buckle up, it’s going to be a bumpy ride.

Dont feel one way or the other for ventura. Just know that if the sox fall out of it in the 2nd half, he will be gone.
Maddon is great for this Cubs team. He keeps things in perspective…loose and light when needed. Would be nice to get him a title with this club.
Moves will be made this month. Who will be moving and what will it cost will be the questions. Theo and hahn will be busy.
2nd half here we come…GO CUBS GO!!!
