May 6, 2016: Let Me Get the W

posted in: Cubs | 2

My son is getting older.  Just turning 4 years old about a month ago, the regular every day naps are a thing of the past.  They still do happen, but not as frequently.  So, the days when he doesn’t nap, he’s in bed at a good time.  The days when he does nap, he’s up late with Mom and Dad.  He was up late last night.  This was a good thing, because he got to see the end of the Cubs victory.  When I told him the Cubs were about to win, he said “Let me get the W”…

He ran into his room, and came out with the W flag; the one that Comcast made last year during the playoff run.  The one that hangs on a door handle in his room.  He ran out and laid it nicely on the couch, waiting for that last out.  And as the last out was made, and the camera panned the crowd, I said look!  Look at all the W flags.  That flag sure has been getting a lot of use this year.

21 times to be exact.  21 times in 27 games ain’t too shabby.  So the next test of the year, the 2nd best team in the NL, got their first taste.  The Cubs won 5-2.  They bumped their historic run differential up to 96; damn Travis Wood… it could have been 98.

It’s crazy.  We have a 162 game season plus some hopefully, and I’m already tracking their record game by game.  It’s fun.  And now this whole run differential thing… are we really going to be tracking that the whole season too?  Haha…  one thing is sure, this Cubs team looks like a beast.  They’ve looked pretty good before…

Nor are medicines as frightful as appalachianmagazine.com cialis online sales it used to be in the prior days. Erectile dysfunction is said to be a harmful disorder where a person sildenafil discount faces so many issues while his erection. One the most exciting offer with regards to sildenafil 100mg uk that is sold by the site need to be positive and favoring the store selling it. This can be captured from visiting website cialis pills or from medical shops. We welcomed back Dusty Baker to the Friendly Confines last night.  I have mixed feelings on him, although the crowd let him know where the majority sits.  Looking back, it’s easy to blame him for certain things.  When 2003 was happening, it sure felt like the Cubs year.  It looked like the Cubs year all the way through Game 4 of the NLCS; and then it turned out that it wasn’t.  Dusty’s fault?  Running his starters into the ground, which he mentioned yesterday, was something he felt like he had to do.  Did he really?  Was that the reason we lost?  The only time I enjoy living in the past is reliving good memories, so there is no need to go here.  I guess it would make for an interesting storyline if the end of this season looks like the beginning, and the Cubs meet the Nationals with a World Series trip on the line.  The Mets, Pirates, Giants, Dodgers, and yes, even the Cardinals, may have something to say about that.

Has this Cubs team ever looked THIS good?  I remember another year, 2008, when the Cubs finished the season with the best record in baseball.  Was THIS the year?  Uh, no.  Another heartbreaker in the postseason is what transpired.  But, we’re not going there either.

2016 is a new year.  You can say it’s still the Cubs, and stuff happens, but it’s really not.  It’s a different team… different manager.  Now stuff will still happen, that’s for sure… it already has, but this team was built with depth… to sustain through the stuff.

It’s only May 6th.  We’re only 17% through the season.  If the remaining 83% looks anything like the first part, then we’ll be talking about needing only 12 more W’s.  Yes, we should celebrate each W… they all count.  We should track their win loss record regardless of month.  We should follow that historic run differential.  I hope my son grabs that W flag for every Cubs win he is up for.  We all hope this is building towards something… that final W in late October/November.  Until then, let’s enjoy this ride…thus far, there has never been one like it.

we expected a good team and a good year this year. but the the first team to 20 wins and now 21-6 start is more than i think we imagined. and just 10 minutes ago, they were joined at the 20 win mark by the other team here in chicago. and if you watched either of last nites game, you heard how this is the 1st time ever that 4 1st place teams played at the same time in the same city!! keep up the good work……

We Cubs fans are conditioned to be cautious and pessimistic. Always pumping the brakes, waiting for something bad to happen. But this year might be the perfect storm. The Cubs look awesome! I know, I know, talk to you when it is September and October, but I fully expect this team to be there when it counts. Keep building up the record and dominating teams! GO CUBS GO!!!
