Is this really happening? Both Chicago baseball teams in first place after almost a full month of the season? 2 of the 3 best records in baseball reside here in the Windy City? These are weird times.
Yes, weird because the team that hasn’t won in 108 years is favored by many to win the World Series. Yes, weird because the other Chicago team, who was favored by almost nobody, has been just as good. Yes, weird because after a number of years when these teams were each battling for 100 losses, they may now be battling for 100 wins. Could you imagine an all Chicago World Series?
OK, yes, it’s not even May yet. We’ve seen these great starts before right? Yes, right. In 1907 for the Cubs and in 2005 for the White Sox; oh yeah, they were both World Series champs in those respective years. I have a feeling that we will be seeing a lot of history here. A history of two baseball teams is about to be rewritten.
For the Cubs, to win it all, there’s going to have to be some crazy stuff that happens. Like for example, meeting your cross town rival in the World Series. So yes, I understand we have 100s of games to play on both sides of town, but I could see it happening. Then there’s that 3rd team with the best record, in the National League, managed by Dusty Baker. Could you see that NLCS matchup? It’s almost expected that the Cubs will keep this up. Yes, things are very weird.

And the Sox… not as many folks believe they can keep this up. Probably the same number of people who thought they’d be this good are the only ones who think that, although I’m sure each game that passes garners more riders to the Sox bandwagon. They hadn’t beaten anybody. That’s what was said. And then they swept Texas and Toronto. Any questions? Their pitching is really good.. Sale is Sale, Rodon has control, Quintana may be the most underrated pitcher in baseball, and Latos may have been the best signing. Yes, it’s early, and yes, it’s weird.
I’m not complaining. I’m not even hating on the White Sox for doing well. Good for them. I’m not really worried about any team doing well, except the Cubs. It would be fun to see that happen… fun as long as the Cubs won that October series. Not ever winning the World Series is bad enough. Losing it if we got there would be bad enough. Losing it to the White Sox would be super brutal. Let’s just pump the brakes.
The weather hasn’t even broke yet. Lots of baseball to be played, but so far so good. I want to keep seeing those stats about how history is being broken. I want to enjoy this ride. No time to stress yet, just time to enjoy baseball, and enjoy the fact that Chicago is on top of the baseball world. That is weird.

Cubs and sox both playing really well. You cant beat 2 winning ballclubs in the same city. The sox seem to be getting good pitching, led by what seems to be a determined sale, who has been awesome. The Cubs have been pitching well, too, and are using their depth to their advantage. It is a long year, but the Cubs and sox are off to great starts. The weather is going to warm, and hopefully both teams stay hot.
