April 2, 2016: One More Nail

Tough, tough loss for the Bulls on Saturday night.  I was able to catch most of the game.

I guess the saddest part about it, is that it looks like the Bulls only have 6 games left.  Now, 2 games out of the final spot held by the Pacers, and 2.5 behind the 7th seeded Detroit, and with new injuries taking effect, the prospects are looking grim… again.  A victory last night would have changed everything… at least for one night.

Couple things pissed me off.  It’s like some of the Bulls post game comments… why couldn’t they play like this all the time?  If they did, they’d have a playoff spot secured.  You can’t just play hard now, and expect to win every game.  It doesn’t work like that.  These teams are fighting too.  Detroit played a hard fought game too last night.  Indiana blew a big lead, but came back against Philly to get the important W; we have Philly on our remaining schedule too.  Just because the Bulls are putting max effort in…now… finally… consistently…doesn’t automatically equal wins.  Had they been doing this the whole season, the probability of more wins would have increased dramatically.  But, it may be too late.

Another complaint is the whole drive and kick game.  I know, that is the NBA today, but take a look at the rim before you kick the ball back out.  Brooks had a wide open layup and kicked it out.  Jimmy had a premium look at the Bucket before he flipped the ball back.  If you’re driving to the bucket, and have a good shot, take it!

And one more thing… I know there are not a whole lot of bodies to use, but when I saw Dunleavy march into the game late in the 4th, I cringed.  Then, I saw him foul Drummond, and thought, oh ok, he’s in for that reason.  Then, when they took Drummond out of the game, they left him in, and I thought, why?  He’s never been himself this year… a shadow of the last couple.  After missing a chunk of the year injured, he never recovered.  Will he next year?  Not sure, but this year, it’s a no go; Fred, please take note.

And Bulls take note of how this feels… the outside looking in.  Yes, I know we still have a chance, and yes, I will keep the faith, but this sucks.  As I mentioned before, you kind of take the playoffs for granted around here… at least with the UC boys.  But to miss them?  That’s going to hurt.  Just like that one more nail that Detroit put in our coffin on this night.  Just like when I’ll have to tell my son that the Bulls are on vacation; early this year.  Win out, or go home.  Go Bulls!

Hard work and max effort is a 24/7 thing during the year. You play any other way, you get beat. The Bulls cannot just turn it on now, expect to win, and expect to get in the playoffs. A home game against detroit was not going to be easy, but after wins against indy and houston, the Bulls had the momentum and home court on their side, and they blew it like they have for most of the year. Things just never came together this year, and the Bulls need wins and help to make the playoffs now…good luck with that!
