How many Bulls games have been really enjoyable to watch? It’s been a tough haul, as described in detail in this very blog. Yet, Thursday night against the Rockets was one of the best games I’ve seen in a long time.
Who would have predicted the Bulls come out of their death march? I guess we should have known better. All season we thought the Bulls would eventually go on a run, and each time it looked like they would, they flopped. And every time we’ve tried to bury this team, they’ve held one hand in the air… not quite done. The win against the Pacers was a good one. We’ll need to catch and pass them to make the postseason, and the way Indiana has been tanking, my hope is renewed. This win in Houston on Thursday was even better.
With Taj out, and Derrick playing with one arm, the Bulls played good enough to be tied at the half. Niko played a big part in that. His last 2 first halves have been better than a lot of his entire games this season. He’s catching fire just as we need him to. I thought Niko would take the next step this year, and turn into a good NBA player. That hasn’t happened either. Yet, on the past 2 nights, he has been lights out. Rose wasn’t able to continue after halftime, as the Rockets built up a 14 point lead. The game was hanging right at the point of a blowout… one more run for the Rockets and we would have been dead. But no… not tonight.
The Bulls played like they used to. They played like we all want them to. They gutted it out, kept their heads in the game, never gave up, and went on a run of their one over the next quarter and a half to take the lead. With a win in hand, the Bulls almost blew it… almost. The Rockets, with most of their fans already on their way home, made a furious comeback and had a wide open trey to tie the game… but no.. not tonight.

The Bulls earned one of their signature wins, and I thank them. I thank them for not making me regret recording the game. I thank them for putting the cherry on top of our 5th wedding anniversary, as we exchanged high fives during that critical Bulls run. I thank them for showing me something… that they are not dead yet. There still might be hope.
There I go again; it doesn’t take much for me to hope again. With the current 8th seeded Pacers playing like horse crap, the Bulls should be able to take the 8 seed. What good would that do? Well, making the playoffs is a great accomplishment; something we took for granted. Playing against the Cavs in the first round may not have a happy ending, but at least we’d get another week of Bulls basketball.
The 7 seed is not out of the question yet either. And that would be a different ball game, with the Bulls matched up with the Raptors, whom we’ve beat 9 straight times. Who do the Bulls play next? The current 7th seed Pistons on Saturday night…only 2 games up on the Bulls. A meaningful Bulls Pistons match up? Yes, I like the sound of that… that sounds really enjoyable.

It’s actually a hyper extended left elbow. I saw when he hurt it; think this one is legit. He actually tried to gut it out this time… he can’t win.

“he can’t win”……doesn’t really try in many instances

Bulls win 2 in a row with a big game at home against the pistones. Playoffs still a possibility, but the Bulls need to win at home Sat night. 2 seeds up for grabs, hope the Bulls can get one of them!
