No… not really. Yes, I’m looking forward to this season, as much or more than any other, but I’m still not locked in to baseball.
We’ve been over this before. It’s preseason! I don’t pay attention to preseason baseball. I can’t avoid it though… all my twittter feeds keep me posted on the going ons. I think the Cubs have been losing more than winning, and the Sox winning more than losing. We still got a few weeks to go, before it gets real.
The Sox made the most recent move, the signing of Austin Jackson. Nice move. I liked him last year with the Cubs. I liked him before that with Detroit. Another nice add to the Sox team. The Sox were a good example last year of how winning the offseason doesn’t mean a thing when it comes to the regular season. According to many opinions last year, the Sox had one of the, if not the best offseasons. They ended up falling flat on their faces last year. Sometimes this stuff is a year away… So will this the year that they bear the fruits of their labor? With some more nice additions this year, and some good non-roster moves… like trading away pitching… the Sox may be that sneaky dark horse you’re looking for.

So back to that winning the offseason… do the Cubs own that title this year? Arguably, yes. Does that mean the inevitable falling flat on their faces this year? Especially with the turbo boosted expectations? I don’t think so, and surely don’t hope so, although, again, it’s the 162 game season that will prove that out. Cautiously optimistic I am… not talking crap optimistic, like it’s a given… like getting back to the playoffs is a slam dunk… like advancing to the Series is written… like winning it all is the end of the year for us. I do believe, but I am realistic too… at least I’m trying very hard to be. I’m trying hard to not let my emotions work overtime, and opening up this early in the year. I DO believe… let’s just get to Opening Day.
The other thing I saw on Twitter today was that Schwarber left that game with a knee tweak. Here is something else that will ruin any season’s expectations: injuries. Yes, the Cubs are deep… maybe the deepest position wise in the majors, and even bullpen wise, and because half the bullpen are potential starters, starting pitching wise. Still, a couple of key injuries changes the season’s trajectory in a hurry. Let’s stay healthy.
So baseball yet? No… not quite. It’s baseball 365… 366 this year technically, but nowhere near 100% zoned in yet. Enjoy the rest of spring training if you like, but I will sit back and wait for opening day… it can’t get here soon enough.

Spring training baseball is like preseason football, basketball, and hockey…non-events for me. I have and will never watch these games. I just want my teams to get through them injury-free. Definitely ready for this year of Cubs baseball…optimistic and cautious at the same time. Start strong and be the last team playing!
