Not quite the ring of Monday Night Football, but Saturday Night Basketball was in full effect in the UC last night, and my family was tuned in.
Basketball is my son’s favorite sport at the moment. He IS Jimmy Butler, and like all Bulls fans, was happy to see him on the court after missing multiple weeks with a knee injury. Surprisingly, I was also back on the court too. Of course when I refer to myself, it’s Nikola who I’m referring to. “Niko!” is how I’m greeted many nights walking into my house after a long day. My wife has been pegged as DRose; we watch her minutes carefully. Finally, our dog. She was Kirk Hinrich, but after explaining to my son that the Bulls traded him away, we gave her a new name. He chose Bobby Portis. Of course it doesn’t stop there. He knows all the players and their numbers minus Baristow and Felicio, and everyone through the family is one of them. It’s funny stuff.
Last night, we acted like it was a playoff game. My wife made a smorgasbord of appetizers for the event. Chicken wings, mozz sticks, cheesy garlic bread, pizza rolls, and sushi (!) were all part of our Botana Grande. Does anyone else know what I’m talking about here? That was the classic everything appetizer that we enjoyed growing up during our Pepe’s visits. Yeah, we stuffed our faces last night.

We watched and played, as my son and I played the Bulls vs Rockets on our mini rim. He always asks who’s winning. After I tell him, he asks who’s losing? Haha. So the Bulls were winning in both games, although to be honest, ours was a little less sloppy. All the fricking turnovers and missed shots. It’s no surprise that we were watching two of the top underachieving teams of the year.
It was nice to have almost a full roster out there. Jimmy looked good, while Niko definitely needs some work. To be honest, I don’t even think Mike Dunleavy is all the way back yet. As the game turned to halftime, we flipped one of my son’s shows on; Blaze and the Monster Machines was our halftime entertainment. I didn’t really zone into the 2nd half as much, but my wife kept me posted. It’s great that she loves to watch basketball. The Bulls ended up holding on; not sure if it was our play or the horrible play of the Rockets coached by JB Bickerstaff. They did manage to score over 100 points, which kept our streak alive at 16 straight games allowing 100 points. I’m sorry, but if I was coach, I’d make every single guy feel it…I would have never let it get to this point…it’s embarrassing. It’s a reflection of the effort being displayed out there, and it upsets the heck out of me.
Ok, got that out of the system. Overall, a very good night, with some quality, family time, and a Bulls win. Saturday Night Basketball was right on point. Go Bulls.

Botana Grande…cant beat it from Pepe’s and still an appetizer pleaser to this day.
Buckets being back was a huge pleaser, and Niko playing was icing on the cake. Yes, the Bulls played very sloppy, but they still came away with a much needed W. If they can get healthy, develop some much needed chemistry, and string some Ws together, they can hopefully head into the playoffs with some momentum.
