The Bulls won… the bulls won. Stop the presses. The Bulls played a great game from the 2nd quarter on, and held on, to beat the Raptors on Friday night… 90s night at the UC.
The victory was much needed; maybe it was my attendance at the game that helped. It was a much needed outing for the family thanks to some more last minute tix from RG. I was representing the 90s all the way. On Christmas, my aunt came in from Colorado and gave me this gift that I wore last night. Back in the 90s, my aunts, my dad’s sisters, were both into the Bulls big time. My other aunt loved sports period, and got this aunt now living in Colorado into it too; a perfect time to be a Bulls fan I might add. Since then the big sports fan aunt has passed away, much too soon. So my aunt has been passing on some of the Bulls gear that they collected along the way that decade. I got a Bulls blanket and a vintage Michael Jordan watch, both very cool, but the one I received this past Christmas takes the cake. It was a pratically brand new Chicago Bulls Starter jacket. For anybody who knows anything about the 90s and sports, they know about Starter brand items. That was THE brand to own back then; they producted a ton of great stuff, probably best of all, jackets. I was so, so happy when she gave it to me. It was my other aunt’s jacket of course. I wore it last night for the first time, and I thought of her… and my aunt who gave it to me. I wore it proudly last night, and will cherish it from here on out.
So there I am, walking in the UC rocking my 90s Starter Bulls jacket with my son in his knee length Jimmy Butler jersey with his Jordans on. He got way more compliments than me and my jacket. It was a fun family outing; the fact that they won made it that much better. It didn’t start off so well…
35 first quarter points given up to Toronto. I thought to myself, it would have been nice on 90s night if the Bulls had actually held an opponent to 90 something; they got closer than I thought after that first horrible quarter, but came up short. The crowd last night was a LA crowd… late arriving, just like that other LA. It was pretty empty at first, and I was like WOW… THIS is where we’re at with this team? It filled up by the end of the 1st, just in time to see the Bulls wake up.

They showed all the 90s Bulls on the big screen throughout the night; there were a bunch in attendance. Randy Brown and Pete Myers are both assistant coaches, while Bill Wennington and Stacey King are both broadcasters. When the panned to Stacey, he was eating something…. totally unaware of the camera on him. He’s been doing a lot of that since his playing days, although I’m certainly not one to talk. They showed Kukoc, who is a special assistant to the Bulls. Too bad Scottie wasn’t in attendance; you’d figure out of all nights, he’d be there for this one. The other Bull they showed was John Paxson, who I’m sure was there, but was not shown. Maybe that’s because the boos were reigning down on him, even though they were showing that famous shot against Phoenix. Man oh man… I already told you what you should be doing John.
Back to the game, and the Bulls stayed close in the 2nd, and McDermott appeared to be on. He was called for a cheap foul in the 2nd quarter, and showed some uncharacteristic emotion; maybe that propelled him to his career night. I couldn’t believe that was him doing that scoring, including a nice dunk. He actually played like a first round pick. It was Bobby Portis who ended the 2nd quarter with a bang, with a trey, then after a Toronto miss, he received a full court pass and dunked it with a second left. The crowd was finally into it, and the Bulls only trailed by 5 at the half.
They played great in the 2nd half… one of their best, if not most needed halves of the year. They did almost give it up in the 4th, as they’ve done a lot this year, but they held on, and it was a happy crowd walking out of the UC.
I’d like to think it was our attendance that did it, or maybe it was my jacket. Either way, the Bulls finally won again, and as we all know, winning cures all. Now let’s see them string together a few. Go Bulls!

Bulls own the raps…think that is like 8 in a row! Dougie had an awesome game and showed why he was the leading scorer in the ncaa at creighton. If he can keep contributing like that, maybe the Bulls can make a run, especially when buckets comes back. Honorable mention on this night goes to drose…averaging 27 in 2 games after the break. How nice would it be if he played like an all-star? Maybe there is some hope for this year’s Bulls…hope springs eternal with a new season or new wins!
