The worst starting hand in Texas Hold’em.  Do you ever play that hand?  Obviously in the big blind, when there are no raises.  Maybe in the small blind with no raises, although once you call, and then the big blind raises, you’re pissed.  Do you like to play these rags?  Doyle’s favorite hand was 10-2… not too much better than 7-2.  Maybe if they’re suited you take a flier?  Overall, it’s definitely a hand you don’t want to see in the pocket cam.

Put it together and you got 72… the Refrigerator Perry!  Funny thing about him is that in today’s NFL, he’d actually be on the small side.  Back then, he was among the biggest.  It’s sad to see him now with his shaky health, but the cool thing, and the thing you can always count on him for, is his smile.  He always flashes a smile for his fans.  72 is also in the Chicago news this year again.  That of course being the NBA record 72 wins in the 1995-1996 season by our Chicago Bulls.  I guess you could say that record is in jeopardy… more than ever this year.  Still hoping it doesn’t get broken.  Another famous 72 was Fisk for the Sox.  He was my sister’s favorite player until he ignored her when she was trying to get an autograph; he was pretty much a dick off the field.

Back to 7-2.. split it back up, and you have the subject of today’s blog… the 7-2 whitewash of the Maple Leafs on Monday night in the UC.  I actually watched the entire first 2 periods, and was not disappointed.  They scored early and often, from every angle.  I also got to see the outstanding save by Darling, which I’m sure will be on everybody’s list for one of the top saves of the year.  It was pretty phenomenal.  Even Coach Q after the game could only say Wow, before dogging the defensive effort that led to that golden opportunity.

This is why the Hawks are great; that was also one of the qualities I liked about Thibs.  Never satisfied.  Always finding room for improvement, regardless of the dominant effort just displayed on the ice… and Monday night was a dominant effort.  Were you really worried?

After dropping 3 straight, don’t think anybody was up on the ledge regarding a Hawks crisis.  We know better.  We know what we got with the Blackhawks.  They’ll have their bumps, but we know they’ll be making another serious Cup run soon.  Hossa is hurt, and that’s OK.  Rest up them bones Marian; we’ll need you when it counts.

Still, dropping 3 straight is not characteristic of this team, and they nipped it in the bud vs the pathetic Leafs.  It’s pretty crazy that this year’s NHL playoffs may not have one Canadian team in there.  Of course, Canadians are spread throughout the league, with the Hawks definitely having their share.  But the teams themselves… that are in Hockey Country… may not have any representation in the Cup playoffs.  That’s pretty sad.  You’d have to think that each and every team north of the border would be pulling out all stops to improve their teams… to get to that level where they’re competing year in year out.  The Hawks have done it… of course, everybody can’t be the Hawks.

And that’s a good thing for us.  I’m definitely happy with the hand we’ve been dealt on the ice here in Chicago.  They are the class of the league.  I’m just hoping they stay healthy and get hot at the right time again.  No worries here… not going to see a flop here.  Only hoping that turn and river lead us to taking that pot again.  Go Hawks!

72=Hawks rookie of the year, Panarin!

Never play seven-deuce in hold-em unless I’m forced to or want to shake things up a little.
Hawks and Crow need to stay or get hot once the playoffs roll around. I dont see any readon why they cant repeat unless injuries or cold streak strikes at the wrong time. I would take the Hawks vs anybody in a 7 game series!
