January 31, 2016: Clipped

posted in: Bulls | 3

That got ugly quick.  I took a peek at the line of the Bulls game this morning, and the Clippers were favored by 5.5 pts.  I sort of felt like they would cover that spread.  The Bulls played them tight for a little more than a half, before the Clippers pulled away.  It was an ex-Bull who helped deliver the knock out blow.

Back in the day, we used to say “clipped” to define someone getting punched.  Like “he just went up to that guy and clipped him”.  I wonder how widespread that usage of the word clipped was.  Another more common one was hitting a parked car.  “I was driving down the side street and clipped this parked car”.  I actually did do that one time.  It was a tight 2 way side street and a school bus was coming right at me.  I moved over a bit, and clipped this guy.  It wasn’t bad, so I didn’t stop.  I have stopped other times when I hit an unoccupied vehicle.  Not like I did that a lot, but one time, in the parking lot at work, I turned too quickly and clipped this car.  Actually, it was a little more than clipped… so, I left a note.  The car wasn’t in good condition to begin with, and more damage was done to my car, but still.  The lady called me back and was very appreciative.. she told me forget about it.  Whew.

Or maybe the most common usage of clipped, besides coupons, is the cutting of hair.  My son needs a haircut.  I want to do it ourselves.. we have a few times, and it hasn’t come out too bad.  I never went to a barber growing up.  My mom cut my hair until about 5th grade, and then my dad took over.  I would cut if all off in the summer, and do the shaved sides during the rest of the year.  Yes, so I never had a clean fade, but I also never paid for a haircut… and my dad did pretty decent, besides the one time he left a hole in my head, and they messed with me at the Boys Club for a few days.  It happens.  So if I do that to my son’s head one time, oh well… it’ll grow back.

Jamal Crawford was largely responsible.. well him and Deandre Jordan grabbing everything off the glass and throwing down thunderous dunks, in the clipping of the Bulls today.  I figured they would lose this game, and I was right.  The Bulls have become pretty predictable in this way.. meaning, you can’t really expect much out of them game in game out.  Not really a good quality to have.  That was the nice thing about the Thibs Bulls… you could count on a big effort every single game.  There may have been 2-3 games all year where they didn’t play hard.  The effort was almost always there.  Not so much with this bunch… it’s to the point where the lack of effort is expected.  Maybe it’s not lack of effort… maybe it’s just that we’re not that good.  I refuse to believe that at this point… seeing what the Bulls have done to some pretty damn good teams.

Crawford, the last Bull to score 50 before Buckets did it this year, was on fire.  He’d get like that when he was with us too.  He was super streaky.  Maybe off more than on, but when he got hot, he’d hit some pretty unconscious shots.  Same Jamal today, except maybe a little more on than off.  Today was full blast on.  The Bulls didn’t get clipped today… they got pounded.

So no rest for the weary… after 2 games in LA… including 2 off days/nights… yeah, I wonder what the guys did this weekend.  Did that contribute to them running out of gas in the 2nd half?  Who knows, but on to Utah now… where I’m sure they can’t get into too much trouble on a Sunday night.  It’s Bulls Jazz Monday night… man, are there some good memories of that matchup.

the clippers didn’t ‘pull away’, the bulls laid down and let them run away. 2 games, 2 different teams. how is this possible? to play so well, and then turn around and play so…….not well. just blame fred! seems to be the way this is gonna go.

This Bulls team is starting to remind me of the 2014 Bears. No heart, no consistent effort, and a coach that has lost or never even had the guys’ full attention in the locker room. It is pretty sad to see the wasted talent after some impressive wins this year. Yes, the Bulls will make the playoffs, but unless they all get on the same page and play with heart every game, it will be another short postseason. 20 years ago we were celebrating 72-10…now we have to deal with this Bulls team and a gsw club that is gunning for that record…double whammy so far!
