January 2, 2016: Week 17 Lions at Bears

posted in: Bears | 1

We made it.  One more week, and another Bears regular season is in the books. Unfortunately, we’ve gotten all too familiar with our season ending after week 17. I’m tired of it.

It’s inexcusable and just makes me mad at everybody.  I look at the leadership of this franchise. The McCaskey family isn’t doing us any favors. I’m hoping this last decision will be better than many of their past ones. Are we destined to be bad as long as they’re at the helm?  With the Pace and Fox hirings, a new GM/coaching era began in 2015. I can’t be too mad at them…yet. I have to give them a chance.  Was this year their fault?  Next up in the food chain is the QB; he’s out of chances. We need a plan for life after Jay; we won’t miss him that much.  Wouldn’t it be nice to draft a franchise QB?  Why can’t the Bears get lucky like that?  Yes, we should be focused on defense in the draft, but we need a plan at QB?  I’m guessing we’ll have Jay for at least one more year…one more playoff free year???  I can be mad at him.

OK, it’s a new year for God’s sake. Let’s forget all that for now.  Let’s turn to the game at hand.  Surprise: I think the Bears are going to lose. Vegas only has them as a 1 point favorite?  One last fish to reel in during the regular season is how I see it.  They’re saying Detroit is better than us. Is that what it’s come to?  To be passed by one of the league’s worst franchises?  I’m getting mad again.

The Bears have brought this emotion out of me more than any other team lately.  What the hell is our problem?  Should we have just looked at this as a rebuilding year, and be patient like we were with the Cubs?  Is 6-10 or 7-9 exactly what we should have expected?  Why am I getting so mad then?

I’m tired of the Bears not making  the playoffs. I’m tired of watching other franchises succeed year after year. I’m sick of being a below average franchise. What will it take to turn this ship around?  Have we already started?

I’d like to think so. How much does this game in week 17 prove or disprove?  I’m not sure any more. Yeah, I’ll watch it like I do every week.  But on Monday, I’ll be retiring my Bears gear too early again.

Final Score Predictor:  Lions 27 Bears 17

Ace in the Hole:  Matt Forte 1 TD

Will this be Matt Forte’s last game in a Bears uniform?  He’s questionable for this game, which means he may have already played his last down as a Bear.  It will hurt to see him in another uniform, especially if it’s within the division. Yep, that would be bad.  Time to pack up the bags boys. You can watch the playoffs from wherever you want next week.

Cutler needs to go…other than that, draft well and make some more moves in free agency. Pace, fox, and staff need another year with system in place and more talent before they start feeling some heat, but somebody needs to man up and cut jay loose already. He is not the only problem, but he is not the answer either. He has had his chances, including this year, and while his play has been ok, it is not and will never be enough to get the Bears to the Bowl!
