The last time I’ll put 2015 in the title line. Another year is in the books. It’s crazy how quick life flies by. It really is like Ferris tells us, “life moves pretty fast.  If you don’t look around once in a while, you could miss it.”  Let’s take a look around.

Today is number 618 for this blog.  There were days I posted late, sometimes early, but it all adds up to 618 days in a row with a post out for all to read. I don’t like to toot my own horn, but it’s a lot of fricking work. If this was my day job, it would be a lot easier…I’d be a lot better. So I finally joined Twitter this year to try to spread the word a bit more.  We’ll see where it goes, and although there are times when it becomes difficult to continue, overall, I love doing it.

That’s really what it’s all about: doing something that you love. This is one big reason we keep trucking. That, and the hope to turn this into some real $s one day as a full time gig.  Heading into 2016, we keep the dream alive.

My teams make it easy for me most of the time. The Bulls tumultuous year always presented something to talk about. It may be time to do a feature on the Bulls history, and the greatest team of all time who won the title 20 years ago in 1996. We’re busy doing the 85 Bears feature now.  With the Bears, in this city, we have a topic for conversation 365 days a year no matter how good or bad.  And how about the Cubs run this year?  Talk about exciting stuff. I can’t wait for next year. And the Sox, yeah, we talk about them too…sometimes. Here’s hoping they can play a bit better next year, and shoot to relive their title run of 10 yeas ago.

This year was very special for another reason: the Chicago Blackhawks won the Stanley Cup.  Any time Chicago gets a major sports title, it’s a special year. It’s not like it happens every year of my life.  The first year was 1986 with the Bears. The Bulls got six in the 90s. The Sox got theirs in 2005. Then the Hawks… 2010, 2013, & this year, 2015. So with 39 years on this earth, I’ve seen 11 titles. About a 25% hit rate doesn’t seem too bad, but I’d like it to be better. I like my son’s hit rate better.  He’s not yet 4, and has seen 2. Every other year a title…sounds like a resolution for all our teams.

Speaking about life flying by, looking at my son is the biggest example. It’s probably the one thing I hear the most when I tell people I have a young son: cherish this time because it will be gone before you know it. So I do. It’s these times, I tell my wife, that are the best times. Yes, there are still many goals ahead for us, but there is no time like the present.  I like the line “these are the days to remember, because they will not last forever”.

So heading into another year, let’s keep those eyes wide open. Let’s do things we love. Let’s enjoy and cherish every minute of this life. Let’s keep rooting for our teams, and keep dreaming of that title glory. Will 2016 hold a title for Chicago?  Whatever will happen in the next 366 (leap year), we’ll be here talking about it daily. Thanks to all who read this on a regular basis, and those who drop in once in a while too.  Here’s wishing a happy and healthy new year to all. Cheers!
