December 30, 2015: Finishing up Strong

As 2015 approaches its end, we look to finish the year on a high note. I’m just trying to keep up with my blog, among other things like my day job which has reached its busy point.  It’s been quite a year for Chicago sports.  Let’s see how our active teams are doing at the moment.

Ok,ok, let’s start with the Bears. Finishing up strong is their supposed goal. A win against Tampa in Tampa was in line with that feeling. How do they fare against Detroit this week?  How big a difference is a couple draft slots either way?  It all depends on who is picking the talent.  Last year’s draft is still out for grading. The big pick, Kevin White, has yet to play one snap.  Eddie Goldman and Jeremy Langford both look like solid picks, as does Adrian Amos. Grasu and Fabuluje have both played, Grasu a ton more; will they stick?  I guess to my point about who’s picking, this is the only draft we can really look at. Based on this, I’m feeling better than normal about the draft, regardless where we pick.  There will be impact players throughout the draft…it’s a matter of finding some…on defense please. That being said, I would love to finish the season on a high note.  7-9 would be at or better than most people predicted, except mr. Homer himself, me, who had them pegged at 8-8.

The Bulls are finishing off 2015 in a strong way.  Yes, there was the loss in Dallas that I didn’t see much of, but after an ugly, ugly loss to Brooklyn that I was there for, they’ve beaten OKC, Toronto, and Indiana to finish off their 2015 portion of the schedule.  That’s 3 impressive wins. Although, the Bulls have played their best against the best this year.

Both of these games were hard fought battles that came down to the wire. The Bulls had plenty of chances to wilt, but they finished strong, and got big division wins on their home court.  Last night, it was Mr. Rose out, while Mr. Buckets was in…and on. He played an awesome 2nd half; Brooks was great playing a bunch of minutes at the point. He was great vs the Raptors too. But back to the Pacers and the end game. Down 5 with less than a minute, it looked like the Bulls had wilted again.  Then Butler hit some free throws then a crazy trey to tie the game, which eventually went to OT. The ending of OT was phenomenal. The play the Bulls called out of the timeout was brilliant.  The inbounds pass went to Gasol who threw an alley oop to Jimmy G, who tapped it in. It was a 10 out of 10 difficult rating tap…over Paul George. He then defended a similar play that the Pacers tried to run to tie it…ballgame. Butler blocked George earlier this year in the same spot.  He owns him.  And I hope the Pacers coach has stopped whining by now. I sure am glad the Bulls have pulled it together heading into next year.

The Hasks got a much needed victory in Arizona on Tuesday.  A 7-5 shootout in the desert. Coach Q wasn’t too happy towards the end of at one, as the Coyotes crept back in it.  During a timeout he was laying into the boys.  They needed a win following a whitewash by the NHL leading Dallas Stars and a 2-1 bad loss to the Hurricanes at home. They get one more chance to get two points on New Years Eve in Colorado. Let’s get that deuce.

So onto New Year’s Eve as Chi-Town’s Rising. Get it?  That should be interesting. Something to watch at least.  Chicago needed something for NYE.  Maybe some college football and the Hawks game before then. One more day in 2015… Ready to say goodbye?  You finishing up strong?  Last blog for 2015 coming next.
