All righty, back to the games we go. Let’s start with our 5-9 Chicago Bears. Only because there’s only 16 games do we cover every single Bears game with a preview and wrap up blog. I would probably cut back, especially at this time of the year considering what we’re playing for…or should I say NOT playing for.
Ok, so we’re definitely not trying to end the season on a high note on the field. None of this playing for pride stuff going on. It’s pretty clear that it’s that high draft pick in sight at this point; some fans would be just fine with that. I don’t share that opinion. The momentum that could be built heading into next season with a couple more wins this season should not be overlooked. 5-11 is a lot different than 7-9…. Or is it? Just looking at the record and our place in the standings outside of the playoffs, it’s not. But it’s creating that culture that suffers. Each and every win adds to that. Each victory creates good feelings within the locker room, or at least it should. I know I’m happy every time they win; maybe I’m being selfish here.
Maybe that higher draft pick will make a difference. Maybe I shouldn’t be concerned with every single week. Sorry, I can’t NOT want to win every time. It’s that type of thinking that leads to this losing culture we currently have. Every single game IS important. Every single PLAY is important. That’s what the message should be. There should be focus on these goals every single Sunday. I haven’t seen it in about a month.
Now we head down to Tampa to face an old friend. Getting off the bus running, Rex is our QB, Mr No Emotions Lovie Smith. Hey, I respected the guy. I wasn’t a huge fan, but the results were there for most of his tenure. You never questioned how hard the Bears played then. So after Halas and Ditka, who else you got as coach? I’m hoping that will be John Fox, but after one year almost in the books, there’s no possible way. It would have to be Lovie. I liked that he recognized the importance of beating Green Bay. Yes, it’s only one team, but it’s our hated rival who plays in our division. We need to beat them to win our division, which was his next goal. We did both plus win the NFC under Lovie. We just came up one step short. The performance in that Super Bowl pissed me off; didn’t see many adjustments made throughout that one. Then Rivera was shown the door; good move eventually for Chico. We never made it back to that point.
Lovie was shown the door, as we welcomed in Trestman; I think I just threw up in my mouth. The hiring of Fox was a much better move, yet, the record… Ok, so we’re giving him and the current staff another year. As for this game, how can you not like the Bucs? The line is a bit fishy at Tampa -3.5, which makes me think it will be a close game. I was thinking blow out.

Alshon is on the bench again. Can you say franchise tag? Don’t sign him long term yet. I don’t want to lose him, but he needs to prove he can stay on the field for all 16 games before we should commit big bucks over many years to him. He’s spent more time off the field than on it this year, and with the Bears focused on that draft pick, no need to rush Alshon back, just like there was no need to activate Kevin White. I disagree across the board, but we’ve already discussed that above.
Final Score Prediction: Bucs 31 Bears 21
Ace in the Hole: Langford 2 TDs
I think we’ve seen the last Bears victory of the year. I think we’re seeing the last of Matt Forte; 8 touches last week?!? I do want to sneak in an ATS pick: Atlanta +7 vs Carolina. I’ve stepped back a bit with my picks since Papa Vegas has been taking a chunk out of my ass, but this one popped out at me, so I’ll try to sneak back to 500. That’s what it’s come to this year again. Worrying about the spread and fantasy. Speaking of fantasy, good luck to MK in our league finals today. Don’t let us down…take our ex-boss out!!!
