It’s fun to fill out a wish list. It’s even more fun when you can check something off that list. Did everybody get what was on their list?
Whether the answer is yes or no, that’s really not the point. The point is there are many things to be thankful for in our lives. It’s not about what we don’t have, but what we do have. There is plenty.
In part two of the Christmas trilogy, I’ll say one thing that I am thankful for with each of our teams…yes, even the Sox. Ready, steady, go.
Let’s start with those Sox. Abreu, Sale, Rodon…all good candidates for thanks, but I’m going back…back 10 years to the Sox World Series title. Yes, it wasn’t the Cubs, and it helped make some Sox fans that more obnoxious, but I’m thankful that Chicago has at least one baseball title in the past century. 98 years, 2 teams, and 1 World Series title between them. Hey, at least we got one.
That brings us to the Cubs. I’m thankful for the current regime led by Theo. It wasn’t easy through the tear down and rebuild, especially for us most deserving fans. It’s done and ready to roll. The future is bright. I’m thankful and excited to see this young team grow up in front of our eyes in the quest to do something that hasn’t been done in 108 years. Our time is now.

The Blackhawks already have been there done that. They had the rough years, built up a young core, took their playoff lumps, and broke through for their first Stanley Cup in half a century… 49 years. They didn’t stop there either. Two more to bring the total to three, the Blackhawks carry the Chicago flag, and for that I’m thankful. Now only if some of our other teams can catch on.
We thought the Bulls would be on their way, but now, the future isn’t looking so bright. Still, there is always something to be thankful for, and for the Bulls, it’s that late first round draft pick that has turned into gold. Who’s team is this? It’s Jimmy Butler’s team. Yes, he opened his mouth to the media to release some built up frustration which wasn’t the best way to go, but overall, J.G. Buckets is pretty damn good, and for that, we thank you GarPax.
That leaves us with Da Bears. Ugh. Yeah, we can go back 30 for our epic Bears team, and thank them again and again, but let’s keep it more current. And no, I’m not thankful for Jay Cutler. Instead, let’s be thankful for the return of the defense. Am I reaching here? No. They’re at least respectable again. The one thing we could always hang our hat on was our defense. They are better and very young. Yes, there are some old members, but overall very young. With a draft focused on that side of the ball, and a free agent signing or two, and another year in Fangios system, we can continue to creep up the defensive rankings.
So what are you thankful for with our teams? Come on, there’s plenty of things…I’ve only named five. Always searching for that silver lining, I can always find an angle to be thankful. It’s not really that hard. Part 3 is next.
Da Coach
My thanks for…
Sox continuing to make off season moves to try to get better. They didnt work last year, but that is not stopping them from trying again, and for that I am thankful.
Cubs’ youth making this team seem like it will have some sustained success over the next few years with chances at the holy grail.
Blackhawks awesome run over the last 6 years with 3 Cups and still chasing.
Bulls coming together on Christmas to stomp okc and hopefully get this ship moving in the right/same direction going forward.
Bears coaching staff hopefully giving them some continuity on both sides of the ball with the systems while more talent is added.
