That was just brutal.  Another Bears game and another game that made me want to throw up.  What the heck happened to these boys?

It was only a little less than a month ago, when these Bears gave us a memory that will last a lifetime.  Beating the Packers on Thanksgiving was supposed to be a springboard to better things.  With the schedule ahead of us, we may be able to sneak into the playoffs…  Playoffs?!!?  Did somebody say Playoffs?!?!  It turns out, that win vs GB was truly our Super Bowl…  the effort that was put forth in that game has not been matched since, and this team is nowhere near good enough to win games on less than 110% effort.  I thought this year’s team was different…

I still think they are… a little bit.  But at the end of the day, it’s another losing season.  For all that talk about the great job that the coaching staff was doing, the great year Cutler was having, the young guys learning on defense, you have to take a look at the standings.  5-9 is where we stand.  It doesn’t take a football expert or fan to tell you that is not good.

It’s been tough to watch.  We’ve seen the Bears do things they weren’t supposed to do this year, like beat Green Bay, like the come from behind victories.  We’ve also seen things we’re too used to seeing… unable to hold on to a lead, giving up big plays on defense, making the big mistake on offense… missing big FGs… OK, that one was a little unexpected.  From late Lovie to Trestman to Fox, the story is the same… our Bears are losers.

One of the vocal leaders in the locker room, Pernell McPhee, said the other teams want it more.  That hurts to hear.  Yet, were the Niners better than us?  Were the Skins better than us?  Were the Vikings better than us?  I’ll give you 1 out of 3, but we lost 3 of 3, so what does that tell you?  And then how about the Vikings… I saw a quick blurb that they thought the Bears were giving it their all on Sunday.  Awww… isn’t that sweet.  The NFL step children that we have become got patted on the head for a great effort.  Don’t get me wrong, effort is very, very important.  Not seeing that, is more infuriating than anything.  Have you seen that the past few weeks?  I’ve seen it throughout the year, but lately, it’s become debatable again.

Are they just coaching towards the high draft pick?  I almost would rather believe that.  I don’t agree with that philosophy, but I know some do.  What if the Bears front office and coaching staff do?  They will definitely never say it, but are they game planning for losses so that their draft pick is higher?  Think about that for a second.  You would think that would never happen, but then you probably think that the Super Bowl is fairly officiated.  You just never know.

This is how I break it down.  The coaches have been better than we’ve had; I think we can all agree on that… but what about the record?  The defense has played better than it has over the past few years; the numbers prove that out.  Forte has been the same great player, with some nice backup RBs.  The OL has a lot of the same pieces, although Long at OT has been up and down… down on this Sunday.  Who does that leave?

Yep, the common link through all these years of losing… Jay Cutler.  For all the talk about how good a year he has had, has he really?  How is a QB judged?  If we’re judging Cutler on his past performance, than yes, this year has been good.  This year has been good because he’s done more good than bad.  Is that how we should look at the QB position?  Have we lowered our standards that much?  He hasn’t sniffed the pro bowl since he’s been here, and any talk of that is straight stupidity.  You judge a QB on their win loss record.  It’s not the only thing, but it’s the biggest thing.  Your QB is supposed to make everybody better.  Your QB is supposed to be able to win you some games you had no business winning.  OK, so he’s had some nice games… some nice late game winning drives, but overall, again, I say scoreboard… 5-9 is the record.  I’d have to say the offense has more talent than the defense.  Yes, Alshon has been banged up… and he is again… are we really going to sign this guy long term?  And Marshall is doing great things in New York… bad move there.  But wasn’t there enough for Cutler to do well?  Has there ever been enough?  Will there ever be enough?  The guy just isn’t a winner.  So don’t tell me about the great year he had, and please don’t mention Pro Bowl in the same sentence.  Blaine Gabbert, Kirk Cousins, and Teddy Bridgewater all outplayed our guy.  Enough said.

Yeah, I’m tired of it.  I’m tired of losing.  I’m tired of seasons ending like this one way or another.  We are truly in Rutville.  The rest of the NFL seems light years ahead of us.  How do we jump into hyperspeed and catch up?  Is it more addition by subtraction?  How many drafts will it take?  Any big free agents want to come here and do well?  For everything that said the arrow was pointing up, one thing says it isn’t… and that’s the only thing that counts.  5-9… another losing season is about to be completed.  The Bears are ready to hibernate early again.

Let’s start by teaching tacking to our DB’s.
Then let’s move on to running good routes and getting open (is Harlon Hill still alive? how ’bout coaxing Johnny Morris out of retirement)?
Move on to the O line. Isn’t their job to actually BLOCK SOMEBODY? I like Kyle Long, but move him back to guard where he doesn’t get lost in the blocking scheme week after week.
How ’bout a QB that can get a screen pass over the head of the only defender in the area? Or that knows when to just throw it away?
Then, I know we’re ‘grooming’ Langford, but in what grand scheme of things does Forte only get 8 carries?
Lastly (maybe), how ’bout that clock management at the end of the half………???

Bears are settling for a better draft pick. Their play yesterday just confirmed it.
QB-cutler gone, draft a rookie and sign
RB-forte gone, langford better practice his catching
TE-marty gone, draft a rookie or sign
WR-alshon a beast but cant stay on field…trade for some picks and hope white is healthy next year. Always amazes me how Bears wrs can never get open but we cant cover anyone else’s.
OL-long back to guard, draft and sign in solidify.
D-like anderson at lb and amos at safety. Keep drafting and signing to improve.
Coaches-solidify the schemes and improve all aspects, especially special teams.
So tired of watching mediocre play. Makes no sense how Bears, such a storied franchise, continues to be stuck on average, missing the playoffs year after year.
