December 16, 2015: The Big Three

Back in the UC on Wednesday night on a spontaneous last minute adventure, I ran my personal regular season record to 2-0. The Bulls took care of the Grizzlies, or Grizzly Bears as my son called them.

Thats one thing I love about my wife..the spontaneous spirit. Heck, if it wasn’t for her, with my homebody, what the heck would we do. No, I would say we have this in common somewhat, but she definitely comes up with the best plans for us, even if it is just a Wednesday night Bulls game.

I love playing the last minute ticket game. Yeah, you could get burned, or pay too much than you want if you must be there, but you could get a good deal. Arriving at Billy Goats at about 640, the hunt was on, well sort of. They were out of tickets, so he called Goldcoast right by the stadium. They did have tickets, so we began the walk. I did bring cash just in case somebody was selling on the way there, but how can you trust those. Being burned before makes me really cautious, so unless they were walking with me to the gate, it wasn’t happening; all they were selling was parking passes anyways. So into Goldcoast, and what do they have?  A whole bunch of tickets under face. Of course they tried to sell me the $500 floor seats now priced at only $300 a ticket. One day maybe, but not today. So we found some in section 116 behind the basket for a little more than half the face value. Maybe a little more than we were planning on spending, but a great deal, and pretty good seats. Now we only have to get through airport, I mean, stadium security. We did, and the game began.

And we got to see the Bulls new big three. Rose started hot and had himself a vintage 20 point performance. No mask, no hair, no more 3 point shooting (ok almost), no problem. Buckets was buckets. And for our third member….drum roll please… Doug McDermott. Yes, Dougie had himself a game. He’s had a couple here and there, not enough to justify two first round picks yet, and you can certainly understand why he didn’t get much tick under Thibs, but he’s still got time. He’s got to improve his game…be more consistent, take it more aggressively to the rack, and play better defense. It’s not all there yet, and maybe he’ll just be a 3 point specialist, but he looked good out there tonight.

Not sure what happened to the Gasol brothers. Maybe they talked before the game, maybe with some sangria, and decided to take the night off. Marc was disinterested, as was Conley, for most of the game, and Pau barely squeaked out a double double with some late free throws.

One of the most exciting plays of the game came in the 4th quarter.  When Mario Chalmers went to the foul line, the boos were deafening. No, not because he was on those hated Heat teams, and not because Derrick had a large contingent of Memphis Tiger fans in the house, because after he missed the first free throw, a second miss meant Chick-Fil-A sandwiches for everybody. Yes, everybody!  He missed the 2nd, and the place erupted. I think he figured out why, because the Grizzlies just held the ball at the end of the game preventing one last shot from the Bulls to get us to 100. It would have meant a free Big Mac of course, and with the donut winning the dunkin donuts race, a rare trifecta of delicious morsels. I could have meant that by my blog title.

So it was a ton of fun all the way around. And as the game ended, we made our way to see Mr. Poster/Block Party himself.  Stacey King was nice enough to take a picture with me and my son. Not sure about the hustle and muscle any more, but Stacey sure does have the heart.  Thanks Stacey and thanks Bulls for a great night. Keep up the good work both of you guys!  Go Bulls!
