November 20, 2015: Week 11 Bears vs Broncos

My, my, my… how things have changed.  The once mighty, undefeated Broncos are now seemingly very vulnerable.  The once supposed bottom feeder Bears have some life.  These two teams will meet Sunday on the lakefront.  I know who I like.

So Vegas likes the Bears.  They’re up to -1 in this tilt.  Original line swung about 4 points this way after Manning was officially announced out.  I guess that’s the one thing that gets me nervous:  the impact of Peyton Manning on a game. 

Obviously, for the better part of his career, Peyton has been a game changer.  One of the top QBs of our generation, and in the top whatever for all time QBs, Manning is far from himself lately.  I don’t watch Denver games, so I won’t claim to know exactly, but my gut tells me he isn’t the same top notch QB any longer.  Well then how did the Broncos start off 7-0 then.  Well did you see who they beat?  Besides Green Bay, and how much does that win count for any more… they did beat Minnesota.  OK, let’s look… Baltimore, KC (who kicked their ass last week), Detroit, Oakland, and Cleveland.  Well, surely all their wins were because of Peyton Manning…

Check that sir.  He’s ranked in the bottom half of starting QBs in passing yards.  Wait, it gets better.  Take a guess at his passer rating this year.  67.6!  You want to know who that’s better than?  Ryan Mallett, Dan Orlovsky, Jimmy Claussen, and Mark Sanchez.  My how the mighty have fallen.  So the Broncos are 7-2 and Peyton Manning has a 67.6 passer rating?  So how much does NOT having Peyton Manning in the lineup really mean?  That is the question, and we will find out that answer on Sunday. 

We will have something to say about that too.  Going up against this top rated defense in the Broncos, how will “Clutchler” perform?  Will Langford continue his awesome performance?  What will Gase have in store for his ex-team?  And how will our defense do against mighty Brock?  Our defense played with confidence last week, for maybe the first time in 3 years.  Will they be able to back that up against the Broncos?

I think Gase will have a good plan drawn up as usual.  I think Fox wants to beat the crap out of this team, regardless of what he says.  I think we’ll play it close to the vest, very safe on offense, and rely on our improved defensive play to hold down Brock and boys.  I think Langford will have a good game, and with no turnovers from Cutler, I like the Bears to win a low scoring battle.

I really did mean what I said… the fun is back in Sundays.  I’m looking forward to watching this matchup and expect the Bears to play well.  I’m not all in on playoffs or anything like that… yet.  But if we could beat Denver, we’re back at 500.  One step at a time, but you know who’s waiting for us on Thanksgiving night.  Win Sunday, step one.  Beat GB, step two.  Then talk to me…  Bear Down!
