November 15, 2015: Redemption Days

posted in: Blackhawks, Bulls | 1

The last 3 Bulls & Blackhawks games were all rematches from earlier in the season… from earlier losses in the season.  We got our 2nd chance at the Devils, Hornets, and Blues.  It didn’t start off well…

The Hawks couldn’t get past the Devils…again.  I guess this is a good Devils team, or are the Hawks still rounding into form, or a combination of both.  The one stat that jumped out at me, and really shouldn’t have, is how badly the Hawks were out hit.  54-24 was the story in the box score.  If you know our Hawks, this is a pretty regular occurrence.  I know it shouldn’t matter as long as we’re winning, and with 3 cups in 6 years, there shouldn’t be any complaints, but… I just hate to see us get manhandled like that.  I wish we had some guys that would go out there and clobber somebody.  Instead, it’s Jonathan Toews getting into fights, and fiesty Andrew Shaw.  That’s probably why that 2010 team was my favorite.  Yes, it is mainly because they were the 1st Stanley Cup team that I saw in my lifetime, but they also had some bruisers, like Byfgulien, Brouwer, Burish, and Eager.  Somebody did keep their point and goal streak alive in the loss… we’ll get to that in a second.

The next night at the UC saw the Bulls hosting the Hornets.  I keep wanting to call them Bobcats…  Yes, it was this Charlotte team that demolished the Bulls the other night in embarassing fashion.  We got a chance to pay them back quickly.  Even Jimmy threw out some “fighting words”, talking about that last 3 point shot from that game was disrespectful… at the very least it was unnecessary.  There were also rumors that Thibs talked to the Charlotte coach and gave them the formula for beating these Bulls.  That’s funny.  No, I’m not too mad about that.  I still miss Thibs… I know, I know… I have to let him go.  If he did that, so what?  It didn’t work on this night, although it was a struggle.  Back and forth we went, with the Bulls finally sealing the deal with a Butler jumper that touched every part of the rim and backboard.  OK, one payback served… on to Saturday night.

This time, we were on the road down 55 at St. Louis… the same place where our Bears will try to get a victory later today.  It was a rematch with the Blues on tap.  The last game was the 5 goal 1st period outburst and 3 goal lead that we squandered.  Thankfully, the results would be different here.  This game also marked the return of Keith and Rozsival.  We definitely missed Dunc, and Rozsival… OK, it helped to have him back I guess.  The slowest skater in the NHL returned, but he’s crafty they say…  The story on this night was 88 again.  He extended his goal streak to 6 games and his point streak to 12.  It’s been quite a year for 88.

He was on track to win regular season MVP last year, leading the league in scoring, before going down with an injury.  He missed the remainder of the regular season, but returned in the postseason to help lead us to that 3rd cup.  Then the offseason partying began, which brought us to the rape charges.  Yes, the charges were dropped, and that’s good.  But I love how everybody claims to know what happened… “I told you he was innocent”, “I told you she was a golddigger”, “He paid her off”, “Another athlete that got away with something”.  The thing is nobody knows what happened that night except them 2, and maybe not even them, depending on the level of intoxication.  I’d like to believe he didn’t do it, but I’ll never know.  It was a bad situation, that hopefully everybody can now move on from.  Kane has been moving on, and now sits atop the NHL in scoring once again.  He’s been on quite a tear, and with the Russian comrades on that line, have been carrying us so far.  I’ve got a feeling the Hawks are just warming up..

Yes, you could call these the redemption days.  Whenever you get a 2nd chance to do something right, to win a game, you should value it, and make the most of it.  Yes, the Devils got the best of us, and we’ll only be able to redeem ourselves in a Stanley Cup matchup, but it was good to strike back against the Hornets and Blues.  We will meet again as the story of the 2015-16 season continues.  So far, not so bad.  I expect things to be getting better with both UC tenants.  Go Bulls & Go Hawks.

Kane has been awesome! With everything going on around him this year, he is right back in the mvp form that he left off before getting injured last year. If he can stay healthy, nhl point leader and mvp he shall be. Also, good to have duncs and rozsival back on the blue line. Stay healthy Hawks and get some continuity going…the Ws will start coming consistently!
