November 8, 2015: Getting Old

posted in: Bulls | 1

It sucks.  Ah, to be young again.  I know the Bulls aren’t the oldest team in the league, but the Wolves seemed liked they were running circles around them on Saturday night in the UC.

I remember getting on the court a few years ago for the first time in a while.  I played a pickup game with some young guys.  Damn, they were flying on that court.  I just had to get a body on them, and bang those boards.  I definitely couldn’t keep up with them.  That’s kind of how it seemed in this game.

When Wiggins missed that shot to send the game to OT, yes, there was a breath of relief, but no, I didn’t feel good.  It just seemed like delaying the inevitable.  The Bulls were stuck on 89 for the longest time, and ended the game at 93; they scored no points in OT for the first time ever!  That’s pretty crazy.  But that’s what happens, when you don’t have your shot, you continue to chuck it up from the outside, and you refuse to go to the rim, and at least get to the line.  Why wouldn’t anybody do that?

I know we’re only 7 games in this season, but that’s getting really old.  I know part of the new philosophy is to fire the ball from 3 point range whenever you get a chance, and try to outscore teams, but come on already.  It’s the lazy way out really.  I remember another pickup game I played back in the day in Los Angeles…

I was in much better shape then, and was playing pretty regularly.  I’m normally not an outside shooter, but I was hitting my shots… so I kept firing them up.  The guy playing me, said he was surprised that I kept shooting from the outside; he knew I was from Chicago and expected me to go hard at the rim.  That’s the reputation I like.  That’s the Bulls that I like.  Not this live and die by the three team that I’m seeing so far.  I mean when Gasol is out there firing 3s, something has got to give.  Mirotic was horrible.  Rose just made his first of the season tonight.  Come on already.

DHT hormone when it free cialis no prescription enters into the course framework speedily. I don’t want to keep doing this, but sorry… Thibodeau would have laid into these boys.  You know who should be shooting the majority of their shots from 3 point range?  Snell & McDermott.  I’m not sure if I can call them 3 point specialists, but everybody on your team should not be shooting treys.  Is that why Noah has been benched… because he can’t shoot a 3 pointer?  Ha.. ok, ok.  The Bulls started OK from long distance, so I guess that’s why they kept shooting it.  I believe they were 7-14 in the first half, but like 4-18 in the second half… something ridiculous like that.

The Wolves weren’t all young, and it was Prince that got a big bucket for them.  But it was Wiggins and Towns that were flashing that young talent today.  Was it possible that Wiggins made Jimmy Buckets look old tonight?  OK, Buckets wasn’t having his best game, so I’ll let it go.  But Towns abused Gasol at times, but we’ve seen that against Pau before when he faces these young big guys.  They take it right at him, and do it with success.

I don’t want to be down on this team so early in the year.  It is only 7 games, and with a new coach & system, it will take some time.  Maybe I need to get to a game…  maybe some last minute tickets to a weekday game.  Maybe I need to get out there and see them in person.  Watching this nightly 3 point competition from my couch is getting old.

But that seems like the route the NBA is going.  That’s what a lot of teams do, and that’s why I don’t like a lot of teams.  That’s why I only watch Bulls games.  Yes, I will always watch them because they’re my team, but it’s also because I like the way the Bulls played basketball.  They passed the ball.  They rebounded.  They played defense.  It wasn’t just running up and down the court, firing shots back and forth at each other, like a Western Conference track meet.  Is the Bulls personality changing before our eyes?

I hope not.  It’s the same team basically.  They are not getting any younger.  The window that was wide open 5 years back, with a young team in a weak conference, looks a little different.  The dues were paid, but we never collected.  So we decided to get rid of the “problem”… now, we have an older, experienced team with a brand new head coach brought in to get us over the hump.  Do we have to change our identity to do so?

That is the nba right now. Chuck treys all night, 1on1 ball, and pick n roll…does any team actually run an offense anymore? It is difficult to watch these games. The Bulls played team ball reliant on rebounding and defense. Now, they are blending right into the rest of the nba…shoot as many shots as possible and hope you outscore your opponent. Yes, only 7 games in, but that is what seems like so far. Only time will tell…
