November 6, 2015: Week 9 Bears at Chargers

posted in: Bears | 1

A Monday night affair on tap this week; the only one of the year.  A trip to the West Coast to face the Chargers; are you excited?

It’s a little hard to get excited about the Bears these days.  A 2-5 record is pretty disappointing, although most experts had predicted a rough season.  I thought closer to 500.  I would be right if they hadn’t blown those last 2 games to division foes.  Can’t look back, only forward… although I will look back for a second.

What’s the first thing you think of when you hear the San Diego Chargers?  I think of that Kellen Winslow game against the Dolphins back in the day.  I think of Dan Fouts, Ladanian Tomlinson, and the Phillip Rivers broken leg game against the Patriots in the playoffs.  As far as previous Bears matchups, the two that come to mind are the one where Cutler got hurt making a tackle on an INT return, and the season opener back in the day in San Diego.  I don’t remember the year, but I was there; the Bears lost a tough one.  Tommie Harris and Mike Brown both got hurt.  We were both very good teams back then.  Now, not so much…

The Chargers are banged up big time.  Yes, they still have Rivers, and he’s a pretty good QB, and yes, they still have Hall of Fame TE Antonio Gates, although he isn’t playing at that level any more.  Let’s not make him look like he’s back in his prime.  They will score some points, but they will also give up a lot of points.  Is a shootout in store in this one?

No Forte for the Bears, let’s just be honest.  Fox is calling it day to day; don’t you just hate that stuff.  If he’s out, he’s out.  I’m reading and hearing a couple weeks.  Langford will step in; I scooped him up in my fantasy league, and need a big game from him, especially after Tyler Eiffert last night put up big numbers against me.  My QB Carson Palmer is also on bye.  I picked up… yes, Jay Cutler.

That’s one of the differences between this year and last year’s team.  I couldn’t stand last year’s team; they even made it into my Hate Files for their lack of effort, lack of pride wearing the Bears uniform, lack of care.  This year’s team has been in almost every game, besides the 2nd half vs Arizona, and the entire Seattle contest.  We are not the most talented bunch, but we are well coached, and we give it our A effort.  I can get behind a team like this… unlike last year’s.  This gives me hope that with some additional talent going forward, which is a question mark… will we keep our current talent??… we have a chance to be respectable.  I think we’re respectable now, although the record doesn’t show that.  We will show that on this Monday night.

Final Score Prediction:  Bears 31 San Diego 20

Ace in the Hole:  Jay Cutler 300+ yds passing with 3 TDs

Now, there is no vodka in my orange juice.  I’m calling this one right now.  Cutler hasn’t been so bad; I think him and Alshon blow up in this one.  Langford has a nice fill in game for Forte as well, and maybe the D gets a turnover or two.  It’s hard to get too excited for the Bears this season, but I am looking forward to this one.  I’m looking forward to playing on Monday night.  I’m looking forward to getting a big win.  I’m looking forward to showing everybody we are not that bad.  Go Bears!
