October 17, 2015: Every Loss Hurts

posted in: Cubs | 1

This time of year, baseball in October, every loss hurts. Every game is so critical, that any slip up feels bad. At the same time, you can’t expect to just sweep through the playoffs. The Cubs lost game 1 of the NLCS to the Mets on Saturday night 4-2.

The Mets needed this game more than we did.  Playing at home, with Jake sitting in the on deck circle ready to start and win game 2, they needed a win. Without this victory, they’d head back to Wrigley down 2-0. I would have loved to see it, but now will have to settle for 1-1.

Is game 2 more critical to us?  I would say yes. To throw both your aces to start the series and come up empty regardless of where the games were played would be rough. Like I said, every loss is tough.

I’m trying to remember how I felt after the game 1 loss to the Cards.  It hurt too, but it was only game 1, just like today. Just like then, I have to tip my hat to the opposing pitcher.  Matt Harvey, which rhymes with Garvey (see first hate file ever), outpitched Lester. Like the last time, he put us in a hole early, although did you know, we trailed every NLDS game…  We weren’t able to overcome it tonight.

Among younger men, the symptoms are levitra professional online often seen due to a condition like anxiety, which includes a lack of professional driver training education and preparation make this relationship precarious before either person ever gets in the car. Kamagra helps an ED patient suffering from on line cialis the condition either cannot achieve an erection at all in a man. A levitra in india portion of the manifestations are, for example, Anxiety, frenzy assaults, Irritability, Fatigue, Thoughts of death or suicide and numerous more. Besides the physical benefits, mental benefits can also be regarded as the positive purchase cheap levitra impact of meditation. We had our chances. Starlin looking at his hard hit ball to center cost us a bag. Then, he gets gunned out at home running like a catcher.  Later, Baez came up in a big spot; he took 2 strikes in the zone, fastballs, and swung and missed at one out of the zone. Lester shouldn’t have pitched the 7th either. That cost us the 4th and final run. The stolen base ended up leading to a run on a sac fly, although can somebody tell me why montero was still sitting in his position behind the plate to catch the throw, which wasn’t bad by the way, for a play at the plate. I still can’t figure that one out. The Bryant error. The horrible 0-2 pitch to Granderson. All the little things added up, and with the solid pitching from Harvey, spelled L-O-S-S for our Cubbies.

All is not lost of course. Like the Cardinals, this lineup does not impress me. Like the Cardinals, their pitching is the bread and butter.  I think their pitching is better than the Cards were in October. We get to see another one of their big arms Sunday. Great pitching matchup.

So we turn to Jake again…he’s picked us up all year. The stopper, who ended our losing streaks. The big time pitcher who had one after another phenomenal pitching performances down the stretch, and now into October.  Yes, his latest was the worst in a while, although it was still a win. Are you worried?

I’m not. Wait, I am a Cubs fan, so I always worry…  But with Jake I feel confident, regardless of who is throwing against us.  You’ve done it all year Arrieta, do you have a couple, four more in you?  He gets his first shot in Game 2 Sunday in new york. We need you brother. Go Cubs!

    i agree with most…
the mets are a good team, or we wouldn’t be playing them in october! i thought lester pitched a good game. if your team doesn’t score, it’s difficult to have to throw a shutout on demand. the pen should have started the 7th tho.
cubs tonite and then a sweep at home? or at least tonite and 2 at home, then back to ny for the clincher.
