October 15, 2015: Hiatus Return

OK, so you probably didn’t miss me, but I’m back.  Where did I go?  Nowhere.  I wish I had a good story to tell…  here’s a couple:

Version 1:  After Tuesday’s Cubs game, I was so mentally exhausted, I decided to hop a plane to the nearest tropical island.  I’ve been sitting on the beach ever since Wednesday morning, and have just now returned.  All I did was sleep and eat and swim, not necessarily in that order.  All I packed was Cubs gear, including swimming trunks.  I am now fully recharged (and tanned) for the NLCS!

Version 2:  After the Cubs advanced on Tuesday night, I caught the next plane to Vegas.  Before that, I emptied my 401K account and had it transferred to a secret, personal checking account.  I proceeded to take every dollar out and bet it on the Cubs to win the World Series.  Now, it’s time to pray… for the Cubs win and my future.  Shhh… don’t tell my wife.

And 3…  During the post game celebration, I travelled to Wrigley Field.  I found out where the after party was, and joined in the celebration with the boys.  I have just now stopped drinking.  I’ve played drunken darts with Arrieta, went to the driving range with Schwarber, and sat down to discuss bullpen strategy with Maddon.  What a couple days…

So I fell behind on my blog again; I hate when that happens.  The real story goes like this.  After the Cubs won, I needed to reel myself back in to reality, at least for a couple days.  That reality includes a ton of stuff to do at my day job, that I’ve somewhat neglected since the Wednesday wild card win.  Head down, get some stuff done, get ready for the weekend.  I still have some stuff to do, and actually brought my laptop home to get some work done before Monday.  I hate doing that.  But, I need to try to catch up, and stay ahead of the curve… who knows when and where this magical Cubs journey will end.

We do know where it will begin now, and that’s New York.  The Mets finished off the Dodgers on Thursday night.  Many people asked me who I’d rather face before the outcome of that game…

I said the Dodgers for a couple reasons.  Revenge from 2008 for starters.  I was at Game 3 in LA that year, when the Cubs got swept, the worst game I was in attendance for… to see those “fans” be rewarded while we continued to suffer pissed me off.  The Dodgers made the Hate Files, and I will hate them from here on out.  I wanted to pay them back first and foremost.  Secondly, and should be more importantly, is I think the Mets have the better team.  The Dodgers are Kershaw and Greinke… that’s it.  They have a dysfunctional clubhouse, no starting pitching depth after those two, and a horrible bullpen.  Yeah, I’d have rather faced them.

As it stands, the Dodgers lost for all those reasons and more.  Even Kershaw and Greinke each lost a game in this series…  while Ethier was yelling at Mattingly in the dugout.  Even a Utley takeout of Tejada didn’t pay off…  The Mets were the better team, and the better team advanced.

So now we turn the page…  we look forward to the next matchup.  An NLCS Cubs Mets matchup?!?!  That sounds pretty cool.  How will the NLCS playout?  As you would have guessed, I have some thoughts on the matter…  I’m back in the Cubs Matrix!
