October 12, 2015: Pause for the Cause

posted in: Bears, Cubs | 1

It was a day of relaxation.  It was a day to breathe, and take a step back from the high tension that is Cubs playoff baseball.  After splitting the first two games in St. Louis, it was an off day Sunday.

I was even going to give up the Bears game.  With our lives planned around the Cubs games Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday of last week, and with Monday and Tuesday already reserved this week, I figured, let this be the family day; Bears suck anyways.  Church, breakfast, and Target started off this Sunday.  With thoughts of going to a pumpkin patch, I was prepared to miss an entire NFL sunday; it was worth it with the knowledge of Game 3 happening Monday night.

We didn’t go.  Well, actually, we kind of took care of that on Friday and Saturday morning, with consecutive visits to the Fall Fest at Lincoln Park Zoo.  The bounce house, corn maze, hay bale climbing, and corn kernel diving, led to some fun filled days for the boy, and some quality time together for Mom and Dad.  So, I was home for the start of the Bears game… it didn’t start off well.

Once dumb ass Cutler got sacked in the end zone, and fumbled the ball, I was pissed.  I didn’t want to be pissed… not today.  Today was for relaxation, remember?  I needed an emotional break from the sports drama; I wandered away from the TV.  Missing most of the 2nd quarter playing in my son’s room, I returned after halftime.  I saw the nice blocked FG; there’s something you don’t see every day.  Maybe I’ll watch again…

As we all know now, the game turned out to be surprisingly good, although for the record, I felt pretty strongly the Bears would cover that 9 point spread, and thought they had an outside chance of winning.  I mean, the Chiefs aren’t that good.  Cutler, yeah the dumb ass from the 1st quarter, actually ended on a high note.  I have to give it to him; he led us to victory in this one.  Beautiful passes to Wilson and Forte guided us to victory; it brought a smile to my face on this off day.  A Bears win always does that.

Remember that Kamagra is cheap viagra for women not an aphrodisiac. After my wife took a run on this beautiful October day, I even decided to go running shockingly enough.  Man, I must have been feeling good.  I hit the 606 trail for the first time and even ran down St. Louis to get there; I didn’t care.  Nothing is going to mess up this mojo that is working right now.  I actually did well for my first run in a while; my dog was in worse shape.  Just turning 5 a couple days ago, she was dragging her ass; she’s just as out of shape as I am.  Of course, I was wearing a Cubs t-shirt… it’s been like that for about a week now.

Today, I sit here, a little sore, with yet another Cubs shirt on.  Our house looks like a bit of a shrine nowadays, with all my Cubs jerseys draped over the sofa.  My wife told me it better not stay that way… so I cleaned it up… for now.  At 5pm tonight, they’ll be back draped over the sofa.  It’s Game 3 of the NLDS.

I’m glad I took this pause for the cause on Sunday.  It was a much needed break in this hectic thing we call life.  It’s hectic enough without the Cubs being in the playoffs; when you add that in, it’s super crazy.  With all the stuff that’s been going on lately, the Cubs playoff run is a pick me up.  I seem to be enjoying this ride more than previous ones.  I’m a grizzled veteran at this stuff now, or at least I should be.  As Cubs fans, we’ve been through the ringer; I’m trying not to worry as much now.  This day helped me calm down.

But now here we are… 8 hours from game time, and the anticipation builds again.  It’s Jake Arrieta on the mound today; the great one will be asked to come up big yet again and give us the 2-1 advantage we desperately want.  I’m hoping for a couple big games from our big guns; Rizzo and Bryant are 0-21 in this series so far.  We got a win without them on Saturday; I’m not sure how many more we can get without their contributions.  They’ve been huge all year, but have each had a slow start to their postseason careers; I’m hoping they get plenty of chances both this year, and the next dozen or so to get it right.  I’m not worried.

$300 can get you in the ballpark.  It may be obstructed view, or at the very top of the 500 level where you can see the lake, but you’ll be in there.  Not me… not yet.  I’ll be right back on my couch covered with Cubs jerseys listening to Pat and Ron calm my nerves.  The games continue to get bigger, and I’m ready.  Let’s go Cubbies!

Bears get the surprise W in a game that was winnable. After jay’s dumbass fumble for a td early, he rebounded nicely for 2 4th quarter td passes, including a sweet pass to wilson and recovery pass to forte for the game winner! Head to detroit to keep those lions winless and go into the break at 3-3…how good would that be!
Aside from that, all CUBBIES, all day! Score some runs for Jake so he doesnt have to be perfect, although I hope he is!
    GO CUBS GO!!!
