421, 522, 531, 540, 549…  OK it’s time to get up. Yes the first time was due to my son kicking me in the back, as he arrived at some point to our room last night.  The rest were the 9 minute snooze intervals I have set up; I couldn’t get up today.

I should be jumping out of bed today, but I was dreaming this morning. I kept going back to sleep trying to stay in that dream. I dreamt last night too. Last night, from the parts I can remember, Arrieta had given up a first inning run. It was Polanco with a solo home run to left. I don’t remember much else, although I know it was 1-0 Pirates, I’m not exactly sure if that stayed that way…I seem to remember 11-0 too. Ok, that was a nightmare.

This morning was a little better, except we were still losing 1-0; it was getting late in the game, and I was hoping for a rally. Then it happened. The Cubs hit a home run to left field. The only problem was that this Cub was Evan Longoria, it was at Wrigley Field, the bleachers were still under construction, and the crowd was not going nuts. What the heck do dreams mean anyways?

So reality strikes for our Cubs tonight in Pittsburgh. About 12 hours away, I’m ready to get in my uniform and head to work. Blocking out my calendar from 3pm on, I need to mentally prepare for this one.  I did hear something cool yesterday on the radio; something so simple.

Since the Cubs are on TBS, we’ll be subjected to listen to those bozos broadcast the game. I would listen to the radio, but it’s not synced up. But we can sync it up!  By pausing the TV, or rewinding it, you can line up the TV with the radio. Brilliant!  Now I’ll get to listen to Pat and Ron tonight. As a matter of fact, I’m going to do that with Bears games too.

So back to the game, it’s all or nothing as I’m sure you’re well aware. The 162 game marathon comes down to one 100 yard dash.  98 wins, 97 wins… One of those seasons will be over when this game ends.  We’ve been talking about this game for months really. It’s finally here.

Although starting Liriano against us may be the wiser move… Cole owns us. 7-1 lifetime. We all know how Jake has been pitching in the 2nd half. Historically good. Something has got to give right?

Looking at the Cubs averages against Cole, I see Rizzo, Bryant, and Castro all hitting over 300. That’s good right?  Now if they can string some of those hits together, we’ll be in business.

I feel sick…kind of like I’m going to throw up, and this is only the wild card playoff game?!?!  I have to eat something. Oh yeah, I need to get to work too, although not sure how productive I will be today. The Cubs are in the playoffs!  A win tonight, and all this gets multiplied; the feelings will only get stronger. I need to pace myself, hopefully.

I do feel good though. We have our best against their best. This is how it should be. We’re a healthy team. We’re a hot team. It’s the right time for this game. I’d love for it to be in Wrigley, although that didn’t really matter last night in the Bronx. Maybe being on the road will help this young bunch stay looser.

It’s 163 baby. Are you ready?  Are you ready for this winner take all matchup?  9  innings won’t be enough…maybe extras?  Maybe I should have taken off tomorrow. This is going to be crazy, and I’m just glad it’s finally here.

Who will be ther hero?  Certainly not Longoria, but I hope I had the uniform right. No more dreams between now and then, but a win will ensure another week of them. It’s the time of year when dreams come true for one team. Why not us?  Congratulations on a great regular season Cubbies and best of luck to you and us tonight.  Go Cubs Go!
