The Cardinal is such a beautiful bird. With it’s bright red color, it’s a pleasure to see one sitting in a tree. It’s a whole different feeling when it comes to the St. Louis Cardinals… then you have a matchup with the Arizona Cardinals on the same day, and they both go to hell… yeah, I’m shooting that damn bird.
Let’s start with the not so bad news. The Cubs still won the series… that’s 2 in a row vs the birds for those keeping track. Yet, we were left with feathers once again. With the bases loaded in the 8th down 1 run, we had them in our sights again… the sweep was going to be ours! Nope. The Cardinals escape Wrigley with a victory that all but clinches the division… at least from the Cubs grasp.
Yes, it’s the least of the bad news because we now know that the Cubs can hang right with those flying pigs. Unless Pittsbugh can catch them, they will be sitting there waiting the winner of the Cubs Pirates game 163. Len Kasper made an interesting comment yesterday. Cubs, Cards, and Bucs are the 3 best teams in baseball, yet only 1 of them will make it to the NLCS. One will be gone in 163, and the other in the NLDS. It’s kind of messed up, but oh well… without the 2nd wild card, at this point, we’d be one of the best teams to NOT make the playoffs. So, we march towards our magic number while trying to surpass the Pirates to play that game at home.
I watched a lot of the Cubs game on Sunday… yeah, it was on the same time the Bears game was on, and yeah, I pretty much ignored the 2nd half of that game. My wife asked me why put yourself through the misery of watching the Bears… Well, I would have, but with the Cubs in a pennant race, I felt fine about the switch. What was happening in Soldier Field on Sunday was pretty damn ugly…
I kind of knew we’d be in trouble, but when Cutler went down, it got real ugly. It was already kind of ugly. A 108 yd kick return to open the game was a punch in the mouth. We recovered from that one, thanks to some blown coverage, but we couldn’t from what would happen next. The pick 6 was bad enough, but then when Cutler went down, our fate was sealed. So what is really wrong with Cutler?

Look, if you’ve read this blog or talked to me, you know I can’t stand Cutler. I didn’t blame him for last week’s loss. I was pissed after that pick 6, but… it’s gonna happen. When he went down, I thought shoulder or concussion. When they said hamstring, I was a little confused. I didn’t see him limping off the field. The thing is with this Bears coaching staff, you really don’t know what to believe. He pretty much walked right off the field… which told me he knew something was wrong and he was done. I didn’t see him limping though…
The hate for Cutler is coming out full force… more than ever from what I hear. I’ve been there for a while, but funny enough… the hate has subsided a bit. After the game plan against Green Bay (minus the 3 goal line calls late), and for the start of this one, and this season for that matter, I figured we’d give Fox and Gase a chance with this bozo. I mean, who is our alternative? Jimmy Claussen? That was scary, and even more scarier is next week. 0-3 appears a certainty.
We’ll hear the deal with Cutler soon enough, but unfortunately, there is nobody else. I say make the deal for RG3 right now. With the read option in the playbook, who better to run it but him? He gives us a better chance than anybody else, including Cutler most likely. Is this the end of Cutler? Will he be back? Just as I wished Molina was really hurt on that Rizzo slide in the 8th, people were hoping Cutler was done…. I’m not sure how exactly I feel about that, but to hear more and more people bash him right now… I’ve been there already. I’ve been saying this for years, and NOW, you want to hate Cutler??? It’s like water under the bridge for me. The sad thing is we don’t have a plan at QB… what looked like a better than expected year, made a quick turn on Sunday. At least we have the Raiders in week 4, but hey, even they pulled one out of their ass.
So back to that bird sitting in the tree… that bright red bird… The Cardinal sweep was in effect on Sunday. Isn’t that the Illinois State bird??? Geez, that’s like a conflict of interest. I will not be enjoying the “beauty” of any cardinals in the near future. I may even campaign for Illinois to change their state bird. And if we were to see St. Louis in the playoffs…. yeah, I’m thinking godfather type stuff and putting a dead cardinal under Matheny’s blanket…

Cubbies: We proved that we beat them and that scares ST. Louis. We punched holes in that starting rotation and played good baseball. Bring them on in the playoffs, no fear!
CBC: Hamstring? I saw him fall on his arm/shoulder, how do injure your hamstring falling like that? “He is what we thought he was” Cry baby Cutler is a true loser, worse that Boozer, at least we knew he could not play D. CBC doesn’t want to play b/c the fan hurt his feelings. I called his INJ in a previous blog entry, I was right. Claussen doesn’t appear to be any better. At this point, if you can’t trade for RG3, bring up some unknown who is bagging groceries at your local Jewel.
Bear(s) down!

Cubs have what it takes…this year! With arrieta and lester, only team that scares me is lala with kershaw and greinke. Have a few breaks go the Cubs way and watch out!
Bears do not have what it takes…this year or ever right now! Cutler is an nfl qb, but I doubt he will be able to get it done. We know for sure that claussen cant get it done. The Bears are in desparate need for a franchise QB. Without one, the chances of ever winning again are slim and none.
I like the trade for RG3…what other options do the Bears have unless we tank this year, but for who? Is there a college qb ready to be a franchise qb next year? RG3 would at least make the Bears respectable, something claussen will not do. I think forte’s future is clearly not in Chicago unless the Bears have a qb he thinks can take them to the promised land. The Bears new brass, coaches, and schemes only go so far. At the end of the day, talent wins games in the nfl, and the Bears lack that, especially at the most important position of qb.
