Another Bears Packers game, another Bears loss.  Why did we get our hopes up?

Well, it’s not that simple.  It’s simple why we get our hopes up… because we’re fans.  It’s a new year.  Everybody is undefeated.  Last year’s nightmare is behind us.  We hate the Packers.  We wanted to believe this could happen.  Why couldn’t we surprise and beat the Packers?  No, I know why we get our hopes up, but to just call this the same old thing, I don’t think is accurate.

Yes, the end result is the same, but let’s take a closer look.  The first half was very good.  Watching that first 30 got my hopes up… hey, this could happen.  With a 3 point lead, the Bears came out respectfully.  The defense did OK, while Cutler and the offense looked pretty decent.  Nothing spectactular, but I liked the play calling.  No mistakes by Jay, after a fumble was correctly turned over… and how about Peppers?  Acting like an ass after that play… OK Julius, try another team, maybe you’ll finally get a ring you loser.  OK, so the lead… yeah, that was ours after the first two quarters.  The 2nd half didn’t start off well.

After stopping Rodgers 3 and out on the first Green Bay drive of the game, he marched them right down the field.  I know Rodgers is good, but come on.  Joe and Troy were laying it on mighty thick today.  It’s not surprising, considering they both probably want to lay something else on Aaron, but wow.  He’s so great, he’s this, he’s that… OK, I guess that’s what they pay you guys for… to lick the ass of one of the best in the NFL today, just like people hold LBJs marbles in the NBA.  Yeah, we know they’re good, but ease up a little bit.

Another thing that bothered me is that we couldn’t get to Rodgers again.  The guy’s uniform was clean… not a speck of dirt on there.  Come on Vic, I thought you’d dial something up to put him on his ass.  Take a run at him… bring some exotic blitzes.  What bothers any QB no matter how godly they are… pressure!!!  No pressure allowed him to pick his spots, and per Joe Buck, make James Jones look like the all time greatest WR… another emmy worthy statement Joe.  You suck, figuratively and literally.

I said I liked the play calling, and yes, that’s true, except for three plays at a critical point in this game.  After the Bears got back in the red zone, trailing by 8, Cutler hit Forte on a quick out, and got down to the 5.  2nd and goal from the 5 yard line, game on the line.  Three passes follow?  Why?  All the good play calling the whole game, keeping the game manageable for good old Jay, getting the ball in the hands of our best player Forte… down the tubes with that trio of duds.  It was the first bad pass by Cutler… almost getting picked.  Yes, there may have been contact and a little holding, but why are we throwing the ball in that situation when Forte has been running great all game long?  Didn’t we all watch the Super Bowl?  Yes, it wasn’t on the 1 yard line, but what would have been wrong with handing it to Forte 3 times in a row?  Better yet, at least line up like you’re going to run it, instead of spreading it out where there is the least amount of space on the field?  Come on Gase!

And yes, Cutler eventually did throw a pick in this one that sealed the deal, but I’m not going to kill him for it.  Yes, I don’t like him, but I think he played OK in this one.  I’m going to lay off for now.  He made some nice throws, some nice runs, and was mistake free until that nice play by Matthews.  Who by the way is a jag too… jumping over the center on a spike?  Come on dude, that’s bush league.

So the end result was an 8 point loss.  I had hope, it grew in the first half, then crashed and burned in the 2nd half.  This is our life… the life of a die hard.  But hey, it’s progress.  I can at least hold my head high, and not look for a brown bag like I would have after last year’s destruction.  Yes, the experts were right… the Packers beat the Bears… so what?  Let’s take the loss and move on.  This isn’t last year.  At least we were given a little hope for this year… it may not be as bad as we all thought.  We’ll get our chance at the Pack again later in the year.  Until then, let’s get some W’s.  No matter what I’ve said, it’s great to have football back.  Bear Down!

same things i saw. in years past, questionable offensive play-calling, and apparently no matter who’s making the calls, it must be contagious among OC’s!! ride the horse the whole game, and ignore him on 3 straight plays inside the 5! how does that happen? at least go play-action to him to open up something. and, like you, i’m not gonna put that pick all on jay. matthews made a nice read and a nice play. another loss to ‘them’, but i was mildly impressed and found there may be stuff to build on going forward.

1st half was a big surprise from the Bears. I liked what I saw on both sides of the ball.
2nd half was not as good. Those 3 play calls from the 5 yard line were terrible…why go away from forte, the guy the Bears were riding all game long? Made no sense…fox and gase blew that game in my opinion.
Bears never quit, scoring a late td…gould was $$$ as usual and his onside kick was pretty damn good, too, but nobody got past the wall.
Overall, the Bears were better than expected. Alshon is not 100% and needs to be. Wilson had a catch with a long run after…looks like he fast. Why did we not throw deep? Forte is a beast and will be a workhorse all year. Jay is jay…if he can manage season like he did in the 1st half, Bears might surprise some teams, and us!
    BEAR DOWN!!!
