7-0  for the Chicago baseball teams this weekend. When is the last time that happened?

This is how it was supposed to be. I actually predicted the Sox to have a slightly better year than the Cubs. I’m glad I was wrong.

The sweep has to be bittersweet for the Sox. Taking 4 in a row in the road against the ALs best in Kansas City should have meant something. This should have mattered in the AL central standings. No, it didn’t. The Sox remain 5 games under 500, a plateau they have flirted with all year. Yes, they’re not mathematically eliminated, but we all know better. Maybe they’re a year away.

That’s what I thought for the Cubbies. With the influx of young talent coming in, you knew it was going to take time. It wouldn’t click that fast, would it?

A 14-5 victory started off the weekend the right way. Rizzo with a grand slam, Addison with two, and the latest young gun to contribute this year, Baez with his first. That brought us to the Arrieta post no hitter game.

Now 21 games over 500 and 3 behind the Pirates, 8.5 behind the Cards, and 7.5 up on the new closest competitor for the 2nd wild card, the Washington Nationals, the Cubs head to St. Louis.

Sorry I couldn’t provide any more detail on he Sox sweep; I didn’t see one inning or highlight. Maybe I should turn it on now…  Still, I give the Sox props for their weekend mastery. I’m glad they haven’t mailed it in completely.  They’re only six games out of that second wild card. Yeah, I thought it was more. They have a chance. That would be something.

With one team just about in, and one team still playing with pride, it’s been a good baseball season. The fact that we’re still talking about it in September is sign enough.  I love the weekend sweeps!
