If you’ve watched the last 2 Cubs games, you have seen plenty of strikeouts. The Cubs faced the world series MVP and regular season NL MVP in back to back games, and the results haven’t been pretty.
11 Ks against MadBum. It was a blowout, as the Giants took 2 of 3 from the Cubs. They pulled within 5.5 games of the 2nd wild card position. Friday night the Giants pulled within 4.5 games, as they beat the Cards, while the Cubs came up short again. This time it was Kershaw. 14 Ks later, the best pitcher in the National League was victorious again. 6-0 in his last 12 starts I think, with a 0.92 ERA. Add it all up, and the Cubs have lost 3 in a row. Are you worried? Is this the slide that was bound to come for our Cubbies?
Many teams have fallen facing these 2 guys; the Cubs joined that group. They actually did beat Kershaw earlier in the year in Wrigley, so to do it twice in a year would have been something; maybe we’ll get another chance… These two are the only pitchers that we have to worry about; they’re the kind of buzz saw that can dominate a game, and shut down any team at any time. Only one of them will make the playoffs…
They’re only 2.5 games apart in the NL West. The Giants have a better chance of catching the Dodgers than the Cubs at this point. If both teams make it, that means the Cubs will be on the outside looking in.

A few traditional drugstores even announce one’s name along with the drug he/she has purchased. I’ve talked about this before; as far as which pitchers to be afraid of in the postseason. The Dodgers actually have another one in Greinke, who will most likely win this year’s Cy Young. The thing about Clayton is his postseason performance hasn’t matched his regular season; I bet he’s chomping at the bit to change that. Facing him twice in a series would be a daunting task. Plus Greinke twice… that’s tough. We’ve got work to do before we get there.
It starts tonight. Lester on the bump. This is the type of game that we need him to win for us; the reason he makes the big bucks. He needs to be the stopper tonight, and throw a gem back at the Dodgers. Jake on Sunday should be giving us the series victory, not stopping a 4 game losing streak. We have our 1-2 up now; are they good enough to win this series for us? Are they good enough to win a playoff series for us?
I’d love to find out. But for now, let’s get back on track. 4.5 games is a nice lead, but not safe… no lead is. I still want to make a run at the Bucs and Cards; that will take playing premium ball from here on out.
Let’s turn whiff city around, and make the Dodgers experience that. We’ve struck out enough time for a week the last 2 games; it’s time to turn the tables. Go Cubs!

I am worried when the time comes that the Cubs have to face an ace, like kershaw or bum. Yes, the Cubs beat kershaw earlier in the year, but their last 2 losses looked pretty bad…lots of holes in the bats. These 2 guys make a lot of teams and players look silly, which is why they get the big bucks. Here’s to hoping the next time the Cubs face either one, it will be in the playoffs with a W for win instead of whiff.
GO CUBS GO!!!
