August 21, 2015: Battle of Aces

OK Sox fans… here’s some love.

Tonight’s matchup between the Chicago White Sox and Seattle Mariners will feature two of the best pitchers in major league baseball today:  Chris Sale vs Felix Hernandez.  Who you got?

Seriously, who would you rather have?  Obviously rooting for Sale and the Sox, but if you had to start your team today, and you have the first pick in the draft, and you must choose a pitcher, would it be the King or Mr. Sale?

The sad thing about this matchup is that neither of these great pitchers have pitched one postseason inning.  I probably should double check my facts, but I’m 99.9% sure and as usual, in a time crunch to pump this baby out.  How good would these guys be with everything on the line?  Let’s take Clayton Kershaw for example.  One of the best pitchers in baseball… I’d probably rank Kershaw, Felix, and Sale all in the top 3.. you pick the order.  Yet, come playoff time, he gets rocked.  At this point, until he proves it when it matters, he cannot get to that next level of greatness.  The good thing for Clayton is that he looks like he’ll get another chance as soon as this year.  As far as Chris and Felix go, they will not.  They will not even sniff the postseason this year barring a miraculous run.  Another prime year of their career… I don’t want to say wasted… but, man would I love to see these guys pitch in October.

Well, we’ll have to settle for an August matchup of 2 great ones.  It’s such a good pitching matchup, and I used to pitch when I played ball, that I may even watch this Sox game…. as long as the Cubs game gets over first.  I’m all in for Sale tonight… I hope the King gets rocked… see above.. or at least gives up a couple hits, and a run, and doesn’t go distance.  Chris Archer did that for me last night, grabbing me 40 points and the lead.. hopefully the King doesn’t respond.  In this battle of aces, I hope for a Chris Sale no hitter… because I’m also playing against Mike Zunino, Mark Trumbo, and Austin Jackson.  Shut them down Chris.  In my battle of aces this week in fantasy baseball, I need the ace of spades.  Going down commish!

My vote would be Sale. It really is a tough call, but I am going with the lefty since they are rarer in the mlb. Sale averages over a strikeout an inning and has a career era of 2.87. Unfortunately, he only has 55 wins in 188 games…not a good ratio but not all his fault. He can dominate a game and still lose with no offense. If the sox can get him 3 runs, more times than not, he will get them the W. His next game after the Cubs masterpiece is vs felix 2nite…should be a great one. I predict a 2-1 game…sox and sale get the win.

Ha! King Felix will prevail tonight having given up one run 11 Ks and will get the win. Zunino: 2/4 single, HR, Trumbo: 1/4 HR, and Jackson: 3/4 2 doubles, single, SB.

Bottom line: You anit passing me man! Comish is on cruz control!

Ok, ok…nowhere near 2-1 but sale got the W and outpitched felix with 14 k’s…29 over his last 2 starts…pretty impressive!
