I’ve figured it out. I figured out how I’m going to get through this football season. In a season of low expectations, after a season of underperformance, I’m just not that excited about the Bears… plus I really love our QB, wink, wink. Yes, I still have fantasy football, but what about the Bears? How am I going to get through this year?
Of course, I haven’t mailed it in yet. The season hasn’t even started. Anything could happen. Maybe the Bears shock the city and the world and make the playoffs this year; stranger things have happened. I want to believe it, trust me. It’s just… it’s like trying to get out of bed some mornings… you really don’t want to, but know you have to. It’s football season, and it’s the Bears, so we must be ready. I’ve found something to help get excited about this.
I actually thought about this idea during last season, and was waiting for this season to roll around. If I was still doing my blog, which I am, I would choose to do a weekly feature, if not more frequent, on the greatest NFL team ever. I wanted to do it last year, but this year made more sense. After all, it is the 30th year anniversary of that 1985 football season…
I heard that there is something on twitter posting daily memories from that year; I almost want to join twitter just to follow that. But I swear, I thought of this first. Anyways, there you go. This is how I will make football season good again… even if it might be a brutal 2015 season. We’re going back to 1985… step in the time machine.
At the age of 9, I was just starting to get into sports. In 1983 there was the Sox, and then in 1984 the Cubs. There was excitement in the air. I started to see how this Chicago sports stuff worked. Unfortunately, those years for the Sox and Cubs would be way too infrequent… and little did we know, the same would be true for our Bears. We wait until this day… 30 years later… to claim another Super Bowl champion. It wasn’t enough that this team was the greatest ever… it’s Chicago’s ONLY Super Bowl team. Somehow that just isn’t right.

We are football crazy in Chicago. It rules the airwaves year round, which is annoying to me, but it is what it is. For us to only have 1 Super Bowl champion, just doesn’t seem fair. But… we sure made it one to remember. I remember that 1985 season like it was yesterday… and that’s pretty amazing, considering sometimes I can’t even remember what I did yesterday.
So we’ll walk back through that season together. I may have to pull in some video help. I did purchase the 1985 entire season game by game on DVD. Maybe I can watch each of those games in place of the real Bears game and report on that? No, still can’t miss a Bears game, but we’re going to try to sneak those in… and remember how it felt to rule the football world.
To this day, these guys are legendary in Chicago; they’re money… literally. They can capitalize on the fame they achieved that year for the rest of their lives here in Chicago. This team is the greatest one year team in Chicago history. Yes, the 1996 Bulls would have an argument, but they were a dynasty… so when it comes to dynasties, it’s the 90s Bulls followed by the current Blackhawks team in my lifetime. But for a single year… a magical year… this Bears team took over the city and the country. It was that year, 30 years ago, that any Chicagoan alive will never forget.
So there.. I figured it out… my own 30 for 30. 30 blogs for the 30 year anniversary of the 1985 Bears. I will be officially adding this feature. This will count as entry #1. We’re going to relive 1985! Get your shuffling shoes ready…

85 Bears were Monsters of the Midway…and the world really! What an awesome display of talent on the football field that will never be seen again.
