Are you ready to hate your fellow Chicagoan?

It’s that time again.  The time when the Cubs face off against the Sox.  The time when a line is drawn, and you’re on one side or the other.  No straddling… not for these games.  It’s Cubs vs Sox, get ready to rumble.

Maybe you’re a fan of both teams… a true Chicago sports fan.  You root for the Sox against whoever they play, and you root for the Cubs over whoever they play.  That’s fine.  I can’t say I agree.  I try not to root against the Sox; sometimes it’s hard.  My love for the Cubs pushes me this way.  Maybe it shouldn’t be that way, but it is.  Regardless of where you sit, of which type of fan you are, when it comes to Cubs VS Sox, don’t be non-committal.  Don’t say you don’t care who wins.  That doesn’t work here.  So for the next three days, July 10- July 12, you’re either a Cubs or Sox fan… period.

Both teams are playing well, each having won 7 of their last 10 ball games. Big difference is the standings. Sox still in the basement, while the Cubs sit 3 games ahead in the final wild card position.  For this weekend’s series, you can throw the records out the door. It’s about pride. It’s about giving their fans the bragging rights. Having played 83 and 84 games respectively, there’s still half the season to go.  Does this series really matter that much in the big picture?  Could this springboard the Sox?  Could this cement the Cubs?

It’s definitely more than just your average series. For those of us who aren’t lucky enough to play playoff baseball regularly, this is the next best thing. Every play is magnified.  The crowd is into every pitch. Lots of chatter in the crowd throughout the game. The park becomes alive. Wrigley is used to that, while the Cell not so much.

These first three games will be played in wrigley, where I’ve seen both cubs and sox fans bloodied, and escorted out.  Emotion is definitely running high.  Of course, it’s better when both teams are good, and not just one.

So if you’re on the fence, then root for the team that this means something to. Who really cares if their team finishes in 4th or 5th in their division. It’s all about making the playoffs and it’s obvious who has the best shot.  Time to mail it in Sox fans. Sell, sell, sell!  You got your one world series this century. It’s the Cubs turn now. So please step to the side, and embrace your role as the red headed step child; you’re used to it.

No straddling here…Cubs all the way! While this series is not just another ordinary 3game set, it really does not matter that much in setting the pace the rest of the season. Both teams have a lot of ball left to play. Cubs should be buying and sox could be selling. Hopefully, the Cubs pick up a piece or pieces that could catapult then into the playoffs and beyond this year. Sox better not let go of sale. Shark had a great game yesterday…will he stay? We shall see on both sides of town in the coming weeks, but for this weekend, GO CUBS GO!!!
