Well this weekend sucked…sports wise that is. Any weekend is good because you’re not working; unless of course you had to work this weekend, then it really sucked.
The Sox started off their series in Detroit with promise on Thursday with a win. They proceeded to lose the next 2 games with a rainout thrown in between on Saturday. Sunday was the worst kind of loss, although they’re all bad. With Shark cruising, the Sox held a 4 run lead in the bottom of the 8th. Yeah, that kind of loss.
Should they have pulled him? Throwing a shutout through 7, and only having a pitch count in the mid 80s, how could you? Once the Tigers started rallying, maybe. Ventura left him in, and on his 110th pitch of the afternoon, victor Martinez (one of my fantasy players) hit a bases clearing double to tie the game. One inning later, a walk off homer to lose it. Tough loss. 10 games under. Last place.
I wish I had better news from St. Louis. After a close loss on Friday, the Cubs got wiped out the rest of the weekend. Yep, a clean sweep.

Having now lost 7 of 9 to the Cardinals this year, you could say we’re their bitch. Man do I hate the Cardinals. Coming off wins against Kershaw and Greinke, the Cubs sat a season best 9 games over. Well, welcome back to earth. Losing the next 2 against LA, the Cubs completed their 5 game skid in St. Louis losing three straight. Hopefully they completed their skid…
It’s 162 games in this beautiful season. Plenty of time for streaks of both varieties. Yet, at the end of this journey, how is it that playoff spots are decided by sometimes only one game? So although there are plenty of games, each one is important. It’s a balance of trying not to get too high and trying not to get too low. Maybe the Cubs were too high after beating 2 studs and equalling their best record. Let’s hope they don’t get too low after this latest smackdown.
The Sox are not getting any better. Sellers at the break? Kenny Williams defended Ventura, saying it’s on his plate. Really? The Sox had the best offseason of any team. Not sure what else they could have done. Now I’m not saying it’s all on Robin…it’s the players who play. They are the ones most responsible. Yet, when a change is needed, it’s usually the manager that goes. I think a change is needed.
It’s Monday morning now. It’s time to start a new week. Let’s forget about this wash out of a weekend and get back to playing some good ball. Time to circle the wagons, and baton down the hatches. Time to figure out the next chapter of this season. If you want a happy ending, this next one better be good.
