June 23, 2015: 2010 Part 2

So you enjoy tremendous success, win the Stanley Cup, and your prize is… You must dump players. This is the story of our dynastic Blackhawks in the salary cap era.

Who goes?  Maybe we start with who stays.  The dynamic duo whose new contracts kick in this year are Hawks for life. Keith is here to stay. Hossa and Hammer will be here. We’re going to show Saad the money. Shaw and Teuvo aren’t going anywhere.  Now what?

Sharp, one of the magnificent seven with all 3 cups, is most likely gone. Bickell bye bye.  Versteeg could be outta here. Richards resigned??? Maybe. Vermette and Desjardins not sure.  This brings us to the middle ground.

I hear Seabrook’s name thrown around. I say no way on him. We only got 4 defensemen to begin with, and he goes?  I really hope not. I’m already resigned to the fact that Sharpie is gone, but to lose another of the Magnificent Seven…not Seabs. I’d rather get rid of this next guy.

Blasphemy I say!  A 2 time cup winning goalie and I want him out of town. Whoa!  This is not true. I don’t want any of these guys dumped, but lets be realistic. We know there will be some, so why not a guy, a position that we have solid depth at. Darling is pretty solid, and what about Raanta?  If there is one position I feel pretty good about, it’s definitely the goalie. That’s why I wouldn’t want to dump Oduya either, although he could be a casualty too.   Back to Crow though…  We wouldn’t have won the cup this year or in 2013 without him. That’s saying something. And although he wasn’t the MVP in either, and was benched at the start of these playoffs, has he made himself untouchable?  Is he one of the guys that will retire a Hawk?

Who else we got?  Rozsival is done. Timmonen is riding into retirement.  Did I mention Kruger?  He should be back. Did I get everybody?  There will be some young guns coming up on defense…not sure how good they are.  One thing is certain… There will be some change.

Not like 2013 change.  That team stayed pretty intact. Think about it. The hawks may have been one deflection away from a three peat!  Not bad at all. It’s going to be more like 2010 part 2. It was a 2 year hiatus after the likes of niemi, byfuglien, Ladd, Brouwer, burish, eager were let go. Are we ready for another 2 year dry spell?

No. That’s not acceptable. The only thing left for this hawks team is a repeat.  We’re getting spoiled and we like it. It’s time for the brass to earn their bucks and make the tough decisions.  With the NHL draft this week, I wouldn’t be surprised that by the time I catch up with my blog, one of the dominos will have fallen. Let the offseason begin.

Sharp, Bickell, Versteeg, Vermette, Desjardins, Rozsival all casualties! Thanks for helping win the Cup this year!

Crow and seabs should stay. Not a big fan of either earlier in the year, but both are proven winners, seabs 3 times and crow twice. Both are beasts on the back end and seabs has a rocket shot.

Time for the great Hawks brass to make it happen and get this team ready for the 2016 Cup run!
