The start of the MLB season is upon us. It’s Opening Day, where hope springs eternal for each and every team in the league; it’s the day where everybody is undefeated, at least for one game… well, almost every team was undefeated. The only team coming into today that had a loss, actually 2 of them, is the Chicago Cubs. Yes, remember Tokyo? The Cubs took 2 Ls on the chin from the defending World Series Champion. THAT was Opening Day in the majors? Yes, technically, it was. Today was Domestic Opening Day… oh brother.
I just hate the fact that the Cubs already have 2 losses; I can’t even enjoy this day tied with everyone in the standings. Nope, we’re already looking up; this isn’t fun. Well, today actually WAS fun. The Cubs won 10-6 over the Diamondbacks in Arizona. And no, that doesn’t make us 1-0… OK, you get the point. I don’t want to have an earlier opening day than everybody else ever again…
Now to the biggest shocker of the day; the Chicago White Sox won! Haha… I’m happy for them. I’m thinking wins will still be tough to come by in 2025. I don’t think they’ll make history the wrong way again, but 100 losses certainly seems possible. Welcome to the show Sean Burke; he twirled 6 innings of shutout ball. Should we rush to pick him up off the fantasy baseball wire? Not sure about all that, but like I said, I’m happy for the Sox; at least they gave their fans a win on Opening Day, you know, one of the only days their home park will be filled… OK, cheap shot. Congrats on being undefeated for a day Sox fans!
The Cubs scoring 10 runs was a nice surprise. I was already in trash talking mode after the 0-2 start in Tokyo. Certainly happy to see multiple guys touch the plate in this one. Zac Gallen was responsible for 4 of those runs in as many innings on the mound; that equals a 9.00 ERA folks. Don’t cut him yet, or better yet, please do, and I will scoop him up. Point is, let’s not get too excited or down about anything quite yet; long season to go…
Steele didn’t look great, but he got the W. Happ went deep and Amaya drove in 5 runs! Just happy to get that first win under our belt and not dig a deeper hole than we started in Japan. Don’t worry; I won’t be talking about those Tokyo games much longer. I’ll let it go… just like that sleep I lost getting up watching the Cubs put up 2 lackluster performances… haha.
Speaking of that other team, the Dodgers won… again. Have to feel like there will be a whole lot of that going on in Chavez Ravine. 100 wins is definitely attainable. OK, let’s get on with it. Only 161 games to go, or in the Cubs’ case, 159… Go Cubs!
