February 15, 2025: All Star Saturday

After 2+ straight days of busting my hump, it was finally time to relax. I got back to my room just in time for the start of All Star Saturday.

Who watches the All Star game itself any more? I’m sure I’ve been through this a number of times, and each year that passes by, more and more people dump on the NBA for this farce of a game, rightfully so; I don’t feel the need to pile on any further at this point, although you know how I love to beat a dead horse… Anyways, the best part of All-Star weekend is Saturday night. The best part of this best part is the 3 point contest. Well, first up was the Skills Challenge…

To say I was disappointed at what Chris Paul and Wemby did to kick off the festivities would be an understatement. This had to be Chris Paul’s doing, and Wemby just went along with it; you’re trying to cheat?? in the skills competition??? It was a joke and I’m glad they got disqualified. I can take it or leave it with this whole skills thing, but it was OK. OK, NOW it’s time… the 3 point contest was upon us.

I did facetime with the fam so we could watch this part together; we were pretty close to being synched up… I was slightly ahead. I had special interest this time around too, because of a wager I placed. Heading to LA, I knew I wouldn’t have access to Draft Kings, so… sitting in the airport Thursday morning, before boarding the first time, I locked in a bet, my last bet for the next week; I took Buddy Hield to win the 3 point contest… home court and all was my thought. Things started off pretty well. He had he most points in the first round; yes! Save some for the finals Buddy… Of course, in the Finals, he was last to go; he started off like shit… I couldn’t believe this. Really? He needed every ball in the last rack to pull it out. First one, in; second one, in… third one… in. OK, come on. Fourth one, out… he made the last one, and ended up losing by 1 point; son of a bitch… Now I hate the 3 point contest… haha. It was still pretty exciting; it’s still my favorite part.

Next up and last for the evening was the slam dunk contest; I haven’t watched in a while. I was going to watch this time because the Bulls had a rep in there. Come on Matas!!! When he couldn’t even make his first dunk, missing on all 3 attempts, I turned it off; this is ridiculous. I flipped on the hockey game, thinking I would make it through to the end. Before long, I was out… waking up at about 2am. What happened? I guess I needed the rest.

It was OK; it was nice because we still got to watch it together. Not the same, but something. Sunday was my day off…
